The East London\u00a0fishmonger which sparked disgust after a worker was caught on video repeatedly throwing frozen seafood onto the pavement outside the store could be shut, MailOnline can reveal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A short clip which went viral on social media showed an employee at the Moon Fish – located at Barking Market on East Street – attempting to break up frozen food by throwing it onto the floor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The video sparked disgust and prompted officials at\u00a0Barking and Dagenham Borough Council to launch an urgent hygiene inspection at the store yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
MailOnline now understands that the shop could be closed down if the owners repeatedly flout legal hygiene requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Under the Food Standards Agency regulations all businesses are expected to develop, implement and maintain food safety management systems based on the Codex HACCP principles. If a businesses fails to meet these standards then regulating bodies can step in to protect the public.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The East London fishmongers that was caught throwing frozen seafood onto pavement could be shutdown after a hygiene inspection<\/p>\n

The council said it was investigating the matter and its hygiene team would visit the shop yesterday<\/p>\n
The Council said in a statement: ‘We are aware of a video circulating on social media appearing to show a local business engaging in unhygienic food practices.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘We took action immediately and our Food Hygiene Team have been in contact with the business and investigated the matter.<\/p>\n
‘Following an inspection, the business owner has been instructed to comply with several legal requirements, most of which need to be in place immediately. We are considering further action.’<\/p>\n
After the video was posted on YouTube, TikTok and X social media users reacted in horror.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A shocked observer filmed the staff member throwing the seafood on to the dirty pavement outside the back entrance to Moon Fish – located at Barking Market on East Street<\/p>\n
One user commented: ‘Why not just run it under a tap and soak it? Vile. It makes you not want to buy anything.’<\/p>\n
Another asked: ‘Did he think no one was going to see him dashing fish on the curb [sic]?’<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, some social media users joked about the video, with one saying: ‘Doesn’t look like a place you should be buying fish from.’<\/p>\n
Others commented on the video with puns, with one saying, ‘This is barking mad’, while another quipped: ‘When I said I want it battered I didn’t mean like that.’<\/p>\n
Moon Fish could not be reached for comment.<\/p>\n
