Athena Bitcoin is adding Bitcoin Cash to its selection of cryptocurrency assets available at its kiosks. Locations for the ATMs and restrictions on certain kiosks can be found here.
While the Athena Bitcoin wallet does not support BCH as yet, an update that will accomodate the new asset is planned. In the interim, the company is recommending wallets from Edge, Coinomi, Jaxx, and Exodus as solutions that can accommodate bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin, all offered through Athena.
Mobile – Android: Edge – Bitcoin.com – Copay – Coinomi
Mobile – Apple iOS: Edge – Bitcoin.com – Copay – Jaxx
Desktop – Windows/Mac: Exodus – Electron Cash – Blockchain
Hardware: Ledger – Trezor – KeepKey (See note below)
All three hardware wallets currently do NOT support the new address format and cannot be used directly with Athena Bitcoin ATMs without address translation.
In addition to being another potential investment asset, Bitcoin Cash serves as a less expensive currency to transact with compared to bitcoin. Network fees on the Bitcoin Cash network are often less than a cent per transaction, while network fees on bitcoin are currently about 15-40 cents for a standard size transaction. That is down dramatically from the congestion highs of 30-40 dollars per transaction in December.
