Meghan Markle faced a fresh blow in her privacy case against the Mail On Sunday today after the High Court ruled the paper can use highly publicised Finding Freedom in its defence.

A judge ruled Mail on Sunday can reply on a recent biography about the Duke and Duchess in its defence against Meghan in the High Court.

The Duchess of Sussex lodged a privacy claim against the publication earlier this year over the publication of a letter she sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

In the letter, Meghan told her "daddy" he broke her heart into a "million pieces" and caused her "unwarranted pain" in the lead up to her wedding to Prince Harry.

She wrote the letter to her dad after her May 2018 wedding, and is now suing Associated Papers, which owns the Mail on Sunday for damages.

Meghan claims publishing the letter was a misuse of her private information and a breach of copyright.

Earlier this month, The Mail sought to amend their defence after the publication of Finding Freedom last month, with which Meghan and husband Prince Harry have strenuously denied they were involved.

Lawyers for the Mail alleged Meghan "breached her own privacy because she 'permitted' details about her life to be provided to the authors, including "information about the letter."
