REUTERS\/Antonie Rolland\/File Photo<\/figcaption><p>BANGUI (Reuters) &#8211; President Faustin-Archange Touadera has won Central African Republic\u2019s Dec. 27 presidential election by securing more than 53% of votes in the first round, according to provisional results announced by the electoral commission on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFaustin-Archange Touadera, having received the absolute majority of the vote in the first round with 53.9%, is declared winner,\u201d Mathias Morouba, president of the electoral commission, told a news conference in the capital, Bangui.<\/p>\n<p>The election was marred by a coordinated offensive by rebel groups who tried to disrupt the vote after former President Francois Bozize\u2019s candidacy was rejected by the country\u2019s highest court.<\/p>\n<p>Attacks and the destruction of voting materials, including on election day, prevented voting in several towns.<\/p>\n<p>Morouba said about half of the country\u2019s electorate, or around 910,000 people, had registered to vote and turnout among the registered voters was 76.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-centralafrica-election\/central-african-republic-president-touadera-wins-re-election-idUSKBN29927S\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FILE PHOTO: Central African Republic President Faustin<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":107144,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23054],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
