David Nabarro told LBC that coronavirus cases are surging across several continents and that wide-spread vaccination is key to overcoming the pandemic. The World Health Organisation’s Special Envoy added that world leaders must relentlessly work together to stop the spread of COVID-19 globally.<\/p>\n
LBC’s Matt Frei asked: “When will it end? When will normality return?”<\/p>\n
Dr Nabarro said: <\/span><\/span>“It would unwise to try to be precise on the ending because we are unable to tell how the vaccine is going to roll out across the world.<\/p>\n “We do see surging coronavirus infections in most continents now.<\/p>\n “That makes me feel that globally this pandemic is set to run for at least a year more, possibly longer.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We will use your email address only for sending you newsletters. Please see our Privacy Notice for details of your data protection rights.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/p>\n “The way in which the situation will be manageable will be through increasing wide-spread immunisation.<\/p>\n “The only way we will be able to get that in place is through a global plan.”<\/p>\n He continued: “We have got new vaccines coming into production all the time.<\/p>\n “We need to have a central mechanism to help countries all move in the same direction otherwise it will be a very uneven world.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n “I am asking all world leaders to focus relentlessly on working together.<\/p>\n “To make sure those that need vaccination, get it.<\/p>\n “I don’t want to have a world where only those that are privileged get vaccinated and the rest have to wait for the crumbs.”<\/p>\n On Saturday the UK recorded a further 59,937 Covid related cases.<\/p>\n DON’T MISS <\/p>\n The was also a further 1,035 coronavirus-related deaths registered.<\/p>\n The UK has now suffered more than 80,000 coronavirus-related deaths.<\/p>\n The UK is set to remain in a national lockdown until at least the middle of February.<\/p>\n The Government aims to have vaccinated 13 million of the most vulnerable people across Britain before lifting the restrictions.<\/p>\nUK coronavirus cases increases by 59,937<\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
