The Rhode Island congressman felt the sneeze coming on as he sat behind fellow Democrat Yvette Clark, who was speaking at the time.

He did not use a tissue to catch the germs, and viewers noted he did not use sanitizer.

After replacing his mask he was seen turning to speak to a colleague to his right.

Michigan representative Brenda Lawrence, sitting on his left a few feet away, shot him a sideways glare before turning back to her papers.

A clip of the sneeze has been viewed more than a million times on Twitter.

One disgusted viewer said: "Into his hand too! Gross. No one taught him to use his elbow."

Political scientist Seth Masket said: "What does he think the mask is for?"

Another viewer said: "I love how he looked around to see if anyone was watching as if he wasn’t on national television."

Cicilline was one of three Democrats who wrote the article of impeachment charging the President with inciting insurrection before last week’s deadly Capitol invasion.

Ten Republicans sided with opponents to pass the motion by 232 to 197 – making Trump the first president to be impeached twice.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi picked Cicilline as one of the impeachment managers who will prosecute the trial in the Senate.

He tweeted yesterday: "The President is a clear and present danger to our republic. We will hold him accountable."

'CALAMITY'

President Trump was accused of stoking a violent mob of supporters before they stormed Congress last Wednesday, leading to five deaths.

And during the hours-long siege, he heaped praise on the rioters as "very special" in a jaw-dropping Twitter video.

Politicians were forced to shelter in a secure room – where some Republicans refused to wear masks amid the mayhem.

Three House members have since tested positive for coronavirus, and Congress physician Brian Monahan has warned they all could have been exposed during the lockdown.

Some 3,000 National Guard soldiers were stationed around Congress yesterday in case of further trouble on the day of the impeachment debate.

The number of troops is expected to rise to 20,000 as a major security operation swings into action for Joe Biden's inauguration next week.

Last night Trump appeared in a new video calling for calm and slamming the Capitol riot as a "calamity".

He said: "Mob violence goes against everything I believe in and everything our movement stands for.

"No true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence."
