A senior advisor to the Cabinet Office was more than five times drink-drive limit when he was found dead in his bedroom, an inquest heard.<\/p>\n
Andrew Timms, 47, was more than five-times over the drink-drive limit when he was discovered dead at home in\u00a0Tehidy, Cornwall.<\/p>\n
Mr Timms’ drinking escalated after his father passed away five years ago and was\u00a0compounded when his mother died from cancer just three months before his own death on July 22, 2020.<\/p>\n
He worked as a\u00a0senior quality advisor in the Cabinet Office in Kingston upon Thames, London, but was signed off sick with stress, anxiety and a low mood.<\/p>\n
Mr Timms suffered from a psychotic breakdown and ‘was drinking heavily’, Coroner Guy Davies said.<\/p>\n
Relatives warned that\u00a0‘alcohol would get the better of him’\u00a0and ‘it would eventually kill him’, the inquest heard.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Davies added: ‘This is a tragic case of a man whose career and lifestyle were destroyed by alcoholism which led to his death last summer.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mr Timms was admitted to hospital on numerous occasions with alcohol withdrawal and seizures and had the support of alcohol groups in Cornwall.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But he ‘minimised his alcohol use and the effects on his health and lifestyle’ and was drinking large quantities of lager and vodka.<\/p>\n
Several empty vodka bottles were found in his home in Tehidy.<\/p>\n
His blood alcohol level was 435ml of alcohol in his blood – the legal alcohol limit for driving is 80ml.<\/p>\n
Mr Timms had been arrested for drink driving a month before his death last July.<\/p>\n
Mr Davies recorded a conclusion of an alcohol related death.\u00a0<\/p>\n
