The Duchess of Cambridge spoke to hardworking individuals who "went the extra mile" by singing a Bon Jovi song to a patient as he fought coronavirus in hospital. <\/p>\n
The request for a song by the American rock band was made by the man's wife after she was forced to stay away from her husband due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n
As part of the Nursing Now campaign, Kate spoke on a video call to five nurses from the Midlands and heard how their selfless actions made the difference.<\/p>\n

Kate, 39, said: \u201cWe hear time and time again about the amazing things nurses up and down the country are doing – going that extra mile.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the things that are not part of the training and the things that you\u2019re taught, but the things that come from your heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s what matters so much now: these acts of kindness to the patients you\u2019re looking after. Family members aren\u2019t able to be there, but you\u2019re going that extra mile and being there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate spoke with Caroline Ruff and Judith Smith, two retired nurses who met when they started training in 1978.<\/p>\n
They have both returned to the NHS together to help with the Covid vaccination programme in care homes.<\/p>\n
Caroline told Kate: \u201cI\u2019m supposed to be retired, I left nursing three years ago after 40 years with the NHS, but when the pandemic came along I felt the need to come back and I\u2019m currently working as part of a vaccinations team out in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Duchess spoke to the nurses on a video call from the Queen's Norfolk residence, Sandringham House, next door to the Cambridge's Anmer Hall home in Norfolk.<\/p>\n
A palace source said the monarch has allowed Prince William and Kate to work from a spare room in the mansion, with the other juggles homeschooling with their three children.<\/p>\n

The Cambridges have stayed in Norfolk since before Christmas and are believed to continue to stay there throughout lockdown.<\/p>\n
Prince William joked last year how he and Kate adapted to the challenges of homeschooling throughout the first lockdown. <\/p>\n
In a podcast recording he said: \u201cI\u2019ve found it pretty testing, not going to lie, trying to keep the children engaged in some kind of work, it\u2019s been an interesting few months.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve learned through homeschooling that my patience is a lot shorter than I thought it was, that\u2019s probably been the biggest eye opener for me, and that my wife has super patience."<\/p>\n
