at his centre&#8217;s make-shift clinic, forcing them to close at weekends.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 72-year-old said they were &#8216;not alone&#8217;, however, and that other hubs across the capital were running low on patients to vaccinate.<\/p>\n<p>Writing in a piece for The Times urging the UK to speed up the vaccination roll-out, he questioned whether &#8216;adherence to moving through the priority groups&#8217; was so &#8216;rigid&#8217; that it was slowing progress.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Paul also asked whether officials were purposely limiting appointments in some areas to &#8216;ensure every part of the country progresses at the same rate&#8217; and to &#8216;avoid criticism of a postcode lottery&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>It comes as ministers are hunting for the final two million vulnerable Brits who have not yet come forward for their Covid vaccine.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/02\/11\/10\/39159162-9249063-image-a-22_1613038839792.jpg\" height=\"449\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Francis Crick Institute&#8217;s vaccination centre in London\u00a0is standing idle because of rigid priority rules\u00a0Sir Paul Nurse (pictured) has said<\/p>\n<p>The Government has made it its mission to inoculate the 15million Brits most at risk of dying from the coronavirus by Monday, which includes everyone over 70, care home residents, their carers and frontline NHS staff, as well as patients classed as clinically extremely vulnerable, such as those with terminal illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>But while 13million in the most vulnerable categories have had the jab, including 90 per cent of over-70s and care home residents, the Prime Minister yesterday warned there is still a group numbering roughly twice the population of Birmingham who had yet to receive one.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sir Patrick Vallance warned last night that lockdown-loosening plans will have to go even slower if large numbers of vulnerable people remained unvaccinated.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some areas of the country leading the way in the vaccine roll-out have taken it on themselves to start jabbing under-70s \u2014 including in Manchester and London.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/02\/11\/10\/39124398-9249063-image-a-25_1613040821083.jpg\" height=\"382\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>But No10 has not officially given local health teams the green light to move onto the next stage of the roll-out, which includes everyone else above the age of 50.<\/p>\n<p>Critics yesterday said the UK&#8217;s roll-out had &#8216;hit a wall&#8217; and urged the Government to expand jabs to a wider audience to reach six million people a week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the claims, Sir Paul suggested Britain could devolve decision-making to individual vaccination centres when national referrals are low.<\/p>\n<p>This would allow centres to prioritise other important groups including teachers, police officers and firefighters to receive jabs when slots remain vacant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said it is important to act soon because &#8216;every day that is missed costs lives and livelihoods&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/02\/11\/10\/39159168-9249063-image-a-24_1613038853968.jpg\" height=\"421\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Francis Crick Institute&#8217;s vaccination centre in London has the capacity to vaccinate 1,000 people a day but is only seeing 300 at most<\/p>\n<p>Writing in The Times,\u00a0Sir Paul said: &#8216;Speed is essential. Vaccinating faster will slow the spread of infection and reduce the risk of variants arising because larger numbers of people will be vaccinated more rapidly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Increasing flexibility, developing agility, empowering the local, will get more patients through the door and get the virus more quickly under control.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Science has provided us with the tools to move forward.
