Prince Charles is said to be "enormously let down" by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's claims of racism in the Royal family.

In their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple claimed someone in the family was concerned about what their baby Archie's skin tone would be.

Prince William has already spoken out to say "we are very much not a racist family" and now it has emerged that Charles feels "enormously let down", according to sources close to the royal household.

A source is reported to have told People: "The prince believes in diversity and his actions show that.

"He was the first person to highlight the Windrush generation (the mass immigration from the Caribbean to the UK in the 1950s) and the contributions they made to British society."

They went on: "He has worked hard for the Muslim community. Of all the members of the Royal family, he has taken this issue the most seriously."

There is no suggestion that Charles was the royal in question accused of making the remark in question.

Harry revealed in the Oprah interview that he has stopped taking his father's phone calls following the couple's decision to step down as senior royals.

The Duke told the chat show host: "I feel really let down because he's been through something similar.

"He knows what pain is like. And Archie's his grandson.

"Of course, I will always love him, but there's a lot of hurt that's happened.

"And I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship."

The source added that Harry, 36, and William, 38, have a "complicated" relationship with their father.

They said: "It's not a straightforward father-son relationship.

"He is their father and their boss, and they are beholden to him to fund their offices and lives."

The Oprah interview, first aired in the US on March 7 and in the UK the following day, featured a string of accusations from Harry and Meghan as they discussed their decision to quit as senior royals and subsequent difficulties.

It included claims that Kate Middleton made Meghan cry in a row over bridesmaid dresses as well as the Duchess of Sussex saying she "didn't want to be alive anymore".

Buckingham Palace has been approached for comment.
