A furious Poundland customer has lodged a complaint with the discount chain after the £1 disposable razor he bought to shave his head left him with a permanent scar.

The company said the razors are only meant to be used to shave the face, but that didn't stop Alex Hollins taking on his head.

Hollins says he was left bleeding for 30 minutes after cutting a chunk out of his skin.

The 37-year-old says he bought the £1 product from Poundland, in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Now Alex has sent pictures of the razor and the wounds on his head to Poundland HQ to give them a clearer sense of what he’s complaining about.

Alex, who lives in Newcastle-under-Lyme, said: “I shave my head almost every day.

"On this occasion," Alex told StokeLive, "I put shaving foam on as usual but it cut a chunk of skin off my head. It’s never happened before. You normally get little cuts but nothing this bad.

“It was bleeding for half an hour. I won't ever use that product again.”

“I've still got a scar," he said, "although it’s not as bad as it was.

"I contacted Poundland directly and spoke to them. I rang them by phone first and then they sent me emails to send the razors and the pictures of my bleeding (scalp).

“I’m scared this could happen to somebody else, said Alex. "There might be another person who’s had this problem."

Discount giant Poundland has investigated Alex's complaint.

But a Poundland spokesman told the Daily Star: “We’ve checked with the manufacturer and the razors, like many others that are sold, are designed to be used on your face, not your head."

They explained: ”The skin around a head is closer to the bone than the skin on your cheeks.

"When sculpting around these delicate areas it does require a lot more concentration and less pressure on the razor handle and cartridge, which is why it’s not recommended."
