{"id":118036,"date":"2021-03-22T19:25:34","date_gmt":"2021-03-22T19:25:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=118036"},"modified":"2021-03-22T19:25:34","modified_gmt":"2021-03-22T19:25:34","slug":"sister-of-nurse-36-who-died-from-covid-joins-nhs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/world-news\/sister-of-nurse-36-who-died-from-covid-joins-nhs\/","title":{"rendered":"Sister of nurse, 36, who died from Covid joins NHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Sister of 36-year-old nurse who was one of the youngest healthcare workers to die from Covid fulfills her sibling&#8217;s dying wish to join the NHS &#8211; and now works on same ward<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nurse Areema Nasreen, 36, died at the hospital in Walsall where she worked<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The nurse begged her younger sister Kazeema Afzal to &#8216;follow in her footsteps&#8217;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Almost a year later, Kazeema, 33, now works on the same ward her sister used to<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The sister of one of the youngest healthcare workers to die from coronavirus is following in her footsteps to become a nurse &#8211; and now works on the same ward.<\/p>\n<p>Areema Nasreen, 36, died in intensive care at Walsall Manor Hospital, West Midlands, where she worked\u00a0on April 4 last year.<\/p>\n<p>Before the mum-of-three died she begged her younger sister Kazeema Afzal to &#8216;follow in her footsteps&#8217; and train as a nurse.<\/p>\n<p>Almost a year to the day since she died, Kazeema, 33, has qualified as a healthcare assistant and now works on the same ward her sister used to be on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/22\/18\/40795314-9390091-image-a-4_1616437954257.jpg\" height=\"453\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Areema Nasreen, 36, died on April 4 2020 in intensive care at Walsall Manor Hospital, West Midlands, where she worked<\/p>\n<p>Kazeema, from Walsall, said: &#8216;Shortly before she died, she said to one of the nurses, &#8216;Is my sister still outside?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She said &#8220;yes&#8221; and Areema said &#8220;please look after her and make sure she works hard because I really want her to follow in my footsteps&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;That was the last thing she said before she was put on the ventilator. I waved at her and then she went out with the nurse.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The last time I saw her through a window was April 1, then I saw her on FaceTime the day she died on April 4.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/22\/18\/40795308-9390091-image-a-5_1616437972328.jpg\" height=\"1218\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Sisters Areema Nasreen (left) and Kazeema Afzal. I remember saying &#8220;please don&#8217;t stop, don&#8217;t give up on us&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They really did try.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Now Kazeema, who has three children herself with husband Arshad, 36, is a healthcare assistant in the acute medical unit at Walsall Manor Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>This week she will begin an apprenticeship at Walsall College in order to get a nursing qualification.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/22\/18\/40795318-9390091-image-a-6_1616437998875.jpg\" height=\"651\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Kazeema Afzal (left) with sister Areema Nasreen.\u00a0 Mum-of-three Areema was one of the youngest NHS frontline workers to succumb to the deadly bug last year<\/p>\n<p>She added: &#8216;Knowing how much a career and education meant to her, she wanted to pass it on to so many and inspired so many.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She knew I would do it and haven&#8217;t stopped since she passed away.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/22\/18\/40795324-9390091-image-m-10_1616438081250.jpg\" height=\"601\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Areema Nasreen graduating<\/p>\n<p>At the time of her death, Areema was the youngest NHS frontline worker to succumb to the deadly bug.<\/p>\n<p>She first tested positive for the virus after developing a soaring temperature, body aches and a cough.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next few days her condition rapidly deteriorated until doctors were forced to put her on a ventilator to help her breathe.<\/p>\n<p>She finally died in the arms of her husband Fasil Pahseen, 40, as the rest of her family watched on FaceTime on April 4.<\/p>\n<p>Kazeema said she first noticed her sister was ill on March 20 when she asked her to join a shift at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8216;That day she was really tired, but because she was moving house we thought she had overdone it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She was never ill.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She kept on working because we didn&#8217;t know they were Covid symptoms.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>After returning home that night, her family were so concerned they called an ambulance and Areema was rushed to hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Kazeema said: &#8216;A day later in the middle of the night she sent me a message from her saying &#8216;Kaz, please come&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;My lungs are full, I&#8217;m going to ICU&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/22\/18\/40795310-9390091-image-m-14_1616438138673.jpg\" height=\"762\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Areema Nasreen with (left to right) husband Fasil, Anya, Zia and Zian<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/22\/18\/40795320-9390091-image-a-12_1616438104559.jpg\" height=\"979\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>(left to right) Kazeema Afzal with sisters Areema Nasreen and Ash. I ran and that run felt like ages, I was running for ages.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;When I got on the ward, I was told to put PPE on and prepare myself before going in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I said &#8220;what are you on about? She has only just gone in&#8221;.
