MSNBC host Tiffany Cross absolutely threw down Saturday in an epic rebuttal to\u00a0Meghan McCain\u2019s rants about identity politics\u00a0on \u201cThe View\u201d \u2015 calling her a no-talent \u201cprincess\u201d who owes her career to being the daughter of the late Republican Sen. John McCain.<\/p>\n
Cross went after McCain after the \u201cView\u201d co-host addressed criticisms earlier this week that President Joe Biden\u00a0doesn\u2019t have enough Asian Americans in senior administration positions.<\/p>\n
McCain argued it\u2019s a \u201cslippery slope\u201d when gender and race can become more important than \u201cyour skill qualifications.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve only had one Asian American host co-host this show,\u201d McCain said on \u201cThe View\u201d Wednesday. \u201cSo does that mean that one of us should be leaving at some point, because there\u2019s not enough representation?\u201d<\/p>\n
Sounds like a plan, Cross responded Saturday, since McCain\u2019s \u201ctalent, as far as I can tell, is finding great Black hairstylists and benefiting from nepotism.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, one of you should definitely lose your job,\u201d Cross declared. \u201cI\u2019ll give you two guesses, but you\u2019ll only need one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cross sarcastically claimed that McCain is \u201creally shy\u201d about mentioning her famous father \u2014 then played a montage of McCain doing just that, over and over and over.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s talk identity politics,\u201d Cross said. She noted that the term was initially coined by three feminists to articulate \u201cBlack women\u2019s struggle at the nexus of race, gender and class oppressions.\u201d But white voters are as animated by identity politics as any other group, Cross pointed out. And just as \u201cspoiled little gun-toting faux-Christian narcissists get to make demands of their chosen politicians, so, too, do those of us who helped pave the way for this administration,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Cross noted that McCain seems concerned about the idea that \u201ca person\u2019s ethnic identity may afford them some advantage.\u201d And she had a theory why that might be.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s called projection \u2015 when one unconsciously ascribes traits that you don\u2019t like about yourself, and attribute them to someone else,\u201d the MSNBC host said. \u201cLike, I don\u2019t know, if my only talent was who I was related to, I may assume that everyone else had some similar unfair advantage, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n
For one of her final points, Cross addressed McCain directly, while noting that white people haven\u2019t ever exactly struggled to see themselves represented on TV and in the halls of power.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone deserves to see themselves reflected in this space,\u201d Cross said, referring to broadcast media. \u201cAs someone who grew up yearning to see my lived experience reflected back to me, and then had to crawl, claw and fight at every turn to take up space in broadcast media, I simply ask: How dare you?\u201d<\/p>\n
