{"id":120263,"date":"2021-04-07T19:34:27","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T19:34:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=120263"},"modified":"2021-04-07T19:34:27","modified_gmt":"2021-04-07T19:34:27","slug":"china-who-study-into-covid-19-has-provided-no-credible-answers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/world-news\/china-who-study-into-covid-19-has-provided-no-credible-answers\/","title":{"rendered":"China-WHO study into Covid-19 &apos;has provided no credible answers&apos;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Joint China-WHO study into origins of Covid-19 has provided no credible answers and a new probe is needed with or without Beijing, group of international scientists say<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Twenty-four top researchers from around the world said the report was tainted\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The probe last week concluded that the virus did not leak from a Wuhan lab<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>It reignited accusations of a Chinese cover-up to exonerate Beijing of culpability\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>China and the World Health Organisation&#8217;s joint study into the origins of Covid-19 has not provided any credible answers, according to a group of international scientists.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-four top researchers from around the world said the report was tainted by politics and demanded a fresh investigation &#8211; even if Beijing refuses to cooperate.<\/p>\n<p>The China-WHO fact-finding mission concluded that the virus did not leak from a laboratory in Wuhan but that bats and other wildlife likely transmitted it to humans.<\/p>\n<p>It reignited accusations of a Chinese cover-up to exonerate Beijing of culpability for the outbreak and subsequent global pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/29\/06\/wire-41064438-1616995460-179_634x422.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Joint WHO-China study on the origins of COVID-19 says that transmission from bats to humans through another animal is the most likely scenario <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/03\/29\/13\/41077442-9413365-image-a-2_1617022295000.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The China-WHO fact-finding mission concluded that the virus did not leak from a laboratory in Wuhan\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an open letter the 24 scientists from Europe, the US, Japan and Australia said the study&#8217;s conclusions were based on unpublished Chinese research, while critical records and biological samples &#8216;remain inaccessible&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Metzl, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank, who drafted the letter, said: &#8216;Their starting point was, let&#8217;s have as much compromise as is required to get some minimal cooperation from China.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>WHO Director General Tedros Adhanon Ghebreyesus said last week China had withheld data.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s senior Covid-19 expert Liang Wannian denied this and appeared to rule out future joint investigations in China, saying the focus should shift to other countries.<\/p>\n<p>Metzl said the world might have to &#8216;revert to Plan B&#8217; and conduct an investigation &#8216;in the most systematic way possible&#8217; without China&#8217;s involvement.<\/p>\n<p>China has rejected allegations that coronavirus leaked from a research laboratory in Wuhan, the city where it was first identified.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/04\/07\/19\/41464148-9446065-image-a-3_1617821320735.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Jamie Metzl, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think tank, who drafted the letter, said: &#8216;Their starting point was, let&#8217;s have as much compromise as is required to get some minimal cooperation from China&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The joint China-WHO study said the lab leak was &#8216;extremely unlikely&#8217;, saying there was &#8216;no record&#8217; that any laboratory had kept SARS-CoV-2-related viruses. Tedros said more research was required to &#8216;reach more robust conclusions&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Metzl said China should disclose information that would allow the lab hypothesis to be disproved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;China has databases of what viruses were being held&#8230; there are lab notes of the work that was being done,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There are all kinds of scientists who are actually doing the work and we don&#8217;t have access to any of those resources, or any of those people.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Fears of a whitewash emerged when the report was repeatedly delayed, prompting speculation Beijing was flexing its muscles to exonerate it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the pandemic China has been repeatedly accused of using smokescreen and suppression tactics &#8211; in the early stages silencing critics with an online crackdown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The WHO has also come in for criticism &#8211; not least from ex-President Donald Trump &#8211; for being too friendly with China and not an effective scrutiniser.<\/p>\n<p>The new Biden administration has also raised concerns that Beijing helped to write the report.<\/p>\n<p>And Republican congressman Lee Zeldin said last week: &#8216;Since the initial outbreak of Covid-19, the Chinese Communist Party has lied and covered-up to the world the pandemics origins.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The World Health Organization has played along time and again as the Chinese Communist Party&#8217;s useful idiots.
