One of the officers who participated in the no-knock raid that ended Breonna Taylor\u2019s life last March has scored a book deal. According to the Louisville Courier Journal, Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly is writing a book about the case titled, \u201cThe Fight For Truth: The Inside Story Behind the Breonna Taylor Tragedy.\u201d <\/p>\n
Mattingly, along with several other Louisville police officers, on March 13, 2020 fired more than two dozen bullets into Taylor\u2019s apartment as she and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, were asleep. Although Taylor lost her life, and Walker felt like he needed to fight for his, Mattingly sued Walker for causing him \u201csevere trauma, mental anguish and emotional distress.\u201d Mattingly also wrote an email to his colleagues saying, \u201cwe did the legal, moral and ethical thing that night.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cPeople love to profit off of Black pain and tragedy,\u201d Democratic Representative Attica Scott tweeted in response to Mattingly\u2019s upcoming book. \u201cIt sells.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Tennessee-based Post Hill Press plans to publish the book, and Simon & Schuster was set to distribute. After receiving backlash, however, Simon & Schuster announced Thursday that the company would no longer commit to distributing the controversial book. <\/p>\n
\u201cLike much of the American public, earlier today Simon & Schuster learned of plans by distribution client Post Hill Press to publish a book by Jonathan Mattingly,\u201d a spokesperson for Simon & Schuster told HuffPost. \u201cWe have subsequently decided not be involved in the distribution of this book.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
