Sign up today for the best stories straight to your inbox<\/p>\n<p>Stunned beachgoers have described a terrifying tornado that suddenly appeared over a coastal bay.<\/p>\n<p>The twister was pictured over Anglesey as several onlookers captured the huge funnel cloud on camera.<\/p>\n<p>Islanders were shocked to see the rare 15-minute vortex moving through the sky over the coast at around 11am on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Naylor from Stoke-on-Trent, who was staying at his caravan in Benllech over the weekend, was in Red Wharf Bay when he witnessed the cloud form in the distance.<\/p>\n<p>He told North Wales Live: \u201cWe were just sitting down having a coffee and all of a sudden, I saw this cloud and then about six or seven other people (did).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know what it was at the time, I thought it may have been a tornado or a water spout.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article24032478.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/2_030521tornado4jpeg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I got my phone out and got a photo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He later published the picture on the &quot;Anglesey Socialmedia Group&quot; Facebook page, with a number of others who also witnessed the phenomenon sharing their images on his post.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Naylor said the weather was \u201cglorious\u201d at the time, despite dark clouds forming in the distance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really sunny where we were, people were in T-shirts, and it just appeared in the distance out at sea where the clouds were really dark,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article24032479.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/1_030521tornado2jpeg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/incoming\/article23304914.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615\/3_IRAQ-BRITAIN-CYPRUS-CONFLICT-IS.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Norwich &apos;sonic boom&apos; but had it come closer I might have been a bit scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the funnel cloud did not reach the ground, it did not officially become a tornado.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Met Office, a funnel cloud is formed when a rotating column of wind draws in cloud droplets, making a region of intense low pressure visible.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article24032480.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/1_030521tornado3jpeg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article23189291.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615\/0_main.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Heartstopping moment driver gets caught in middle of tornado after becoming trapped in car<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It happens when strong inflowing winds intensify, and the spin rate increases as the vortex stretches vertically.<\/p>\n<p>If it continues stretching and intensifying for long enough, the vortex touches the ground, at which point it becomes classified as a tornado.<\/p>\n<p>When a tornado moves across the surface, it can cause severe damage or destruction to objects in its path.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article24032481.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615b\/1_030521tornado1jpeg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<figure data-mod=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk\/incoming\/article23165312.ece\/ALTERNATES\/s615\/0_crow-22.jpg\"><\/figure>\n<p>Hundreds of crows turn sky black over street &apos;for 14 hours&apos; sparking apocalypse frenzy<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s2-prod.mirror.co.uk\/@trinitymirrordigital\/chameleon-branding\/publications\/dailystar\/img\/logo-schema-dailystar.png\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mike Shaw from Manchester was driving towards the beach at Llanddona with his partner when he also spotted the cloud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were driving on the straight road to Llanddona for a coastal walk, I always have my camera,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looked like a twister so pulled up and got my camera out of the boot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were about three miles from the coast at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw it for about five minutes but it disappeared below the hill on my photo, and by the time we got to the beach down the single track winding road, it had gone &#8211;
