{"id":123718,"date":"2021-05-04T18:03:46","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T18:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=123718"},"modified":"2021-05-04T18:03:46","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T18:03:46","slug":"bidens-new-goal-70-of-adults-at-least-partially-vaccinated-by-july-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/politics\/bidens-new-goal-70-of-adults-at-least-partially-vaccinated-by-july-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Biden&#8217;s new goal: 70% of adults at least partially vaccinated by July 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON\u00a0\u2013 President Joe Biden wants 70% of U.S. adults to have gotten at least one COVID-19 shot by July 4, a goal he is set to announce Tuesday along with new steps to vaccinate harder-to-reach populations and preparations for vaccinating teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>Today, about 56% of adults have received at least one shot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The pace of vaccinations required to reach 70%\u00a0is much lower\u00a0than the speed with which the nation got to its\u00a0current levels.<\/p>\n<p>But vaccinators are now moving beyond\u00a0the most vulnerable populations and those most eager to get vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, most states appear to be at or near the point where supply is outstripping demand, according to an analysis released Tuesday by the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonpartisan health research organization.<\/p>\n<p>Steps the\u00a0administration is taking to boost vaccinations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Directing most pharmacies participating in the federal vaccination program to offer walk-in appointments and encouraging states to do the same at state-run sites.<\/li>\n<li>Redirecting federal assistance\u00a0away from mass vaccination sites and toward more pop-up and mobile clinics.<\/li>\n<li>Spending tens of millions of dollars on education and outreach campaigns through states, national organizations and community groups including those that work with underserved communities.<\/li>\n<li>Sending doses directly to rural communities. Rural health clinics and hospitals are also receiving hundreds\u00a0of millions of dollars through the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package to boost their services.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The administration also told states on Tuesday that it will\u00a0redistribute\u00a0vaccine doses allocated to states if a state isn&#8217;t able to use all of its share in a given week. States that want more can apply for any unclaimed amounts each week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/presto\/2021\/04\/26\/USAT\/3ecc5318-8b15-4324-9d85-8b2c8a7526e6-GettyImages-1313692317.jpg?width=540&amp;height=&amp;fit=bounds&amp;auto=webp\"><\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden delivers remarks on the COVID-19 response on April 21, 2021.<meta itemprop=\"copyrightHolder\" content=\"Alex Wong, Getty Images\" \/>&nbsp;<span>(Photo: Alex Wong, Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As the Food and Drug Administration considers whether to approve the Pfizer vaccine for those ages 12-15, the administration is getting ready to act, according to senior administration officials who briefed reporters in advance of Biden&#8217;s remarks on condition of anonymity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>About 15,000 pharmacies will be able to vaccinate teens. Doses will also be sent to pediatricians and family doctors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The administration is &#8220;challenging&#8221; states to administer at least one shot to as many teens as possible by July 4, so they can be fully vaccinated by the time school starts in the fall.\u00a0But the White House declined to say if there is a specific target.<\/p>\n<p>Officials did stress that while Biden&#8217;s 70% goal of adults is national, that should also be the target for individual communities.
