REUTERS\/Willy Kurniawan<\/figcaption><p>JAKARTA (Reuters) &#8211; Indonesia is expected to post its biggest trade surplus in six months of $2.3 billion in May, with exports and imports seen surging amid high commodity prices and a global trade recovery, a Reuters poll showed on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Southeast Asia\u2019s biggest economy has recorded a trade surplus every month since May 2020 as shipments were boosted by the high commodity prices and as trade partners eased coronavirus-related restrictions, while import recovery was slower due weak domestic demand.<\/p>\n<p>The surplus in April was $2.19 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Eleven economists in the poll expected exports to jump 57.49% on a yearly basis in May, outpacing the April\u2019s rise of 51.94%, while imports were seen leaping 65% in May, against the previous month\u2019s 29.93% rise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis high increases tend to be caused by the low base effect in the past year because last year\u2019s trading volume was very low at the beginning of the pandemic,\u201d said Josua Pardede, an economist with Bank Permata.<\/p>\n<p>Josua predicted the resource-rich country will continue to post trade surpluses for some time on the back of high commodity prices.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/indonesia-economy-trade\/poll-indonesia-may-trade-surplus-expected-at-6-month-high-idUSL3N2NT19T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FILE PHOTO: A worker stands on a<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":128490,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23054],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
