{"id":129711,"date":"2021-06-22T16:05:10","date_gmt":"2021-06-22T16:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=129711"},"modified":"2021-06-22T16:05:10","modified_gmt":"2021-06-22T16:05:10","slug":"disney-heiress-billionaires-dont-share-the-same-planet-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/business\/disney-heiress-billionaires-dont-share-the-same-planet-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney heiress: Billionaires don&#39;t share the same planet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><cite>New York (CNN Business)<\/cite>Abigail Disney is flabbergasted over the Walt Disney Co.&#8217;s decision to furlough thousands low-paid workers after paying its executives millions of dollars. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;WHAT THE ACTUAL F***?????&#8221; tweeted Disney, the granddaughter of Walt Disney&#8217;s brother, Roy Disney.<br \/>\nIn a Twitter thread Tuesday, the outspoken family heiress slammed Disney&#8217;s decision to furlough theme park employees after the company paid dividends to shareholders and gave executives big bonuses. Disney hasn&#8217;t revealed dividend plans for 2020, and the company&#8217;s top executives took substantial pay cuts because of Covid-19. <\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>The Walt Disney Co. announced earlier this month it&#8217;s furloughing employees &#8220;whose jobs aren&#8217;t necessary at this time.&#8221; The coronavirus pandemic has forced a major chunk of Disney&#8217;s businesses to temporarily suspend operations, including its parks, resorts and entertainment productions. More than 75% of the company&#8217;s 223,000 employees work for the Parks and Products division.<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>Tens of thousands of park workers fought for and won a $15-an-hour minimum wage in 2018.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>OK, I&#39;ve been holding my tongue on the theory that a pandemic is no time to be calling people out on anything other than failing us in a public health sense.  I thought it might be a moment for peace and reconciliation.  But I feel a thread coming on&#8230;.1\/ https:\/\/t.co\/G1mUq7RmAV<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Abigail Disney (@abigaildisney) April 21, 2020<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Abigail Disney, a fierce critic of outsized executive compensation &#8212; particularly at Disney &#8212; slammed the company for failing to take care of its low-paid workers when bosses have been &#8220;collecting egregious bonuses for years.&#8221;<br \/>\nShe has previously called former Disney CEO Bob Iger salary&#8217;s &#8220;insane.&#8221; Iger stepped down in February and was replaced by Bob Chapek. Iger remains Disney&#8217;s chairman. Last year, Iger made $47,525,560, which was 911 times the median worker&#8217;s pay.<br \/>\n&#8220;What kind of person is comfortable with this???,&#8221; Disney tweeted, asking Chapek and Iger to reconsider their pay and return some of their money to the company.<br \/>\n&#8220;Disney faces a rough couple of years, to be sure,&#8221; she wrote. &#8220;But that does not constitute permission to continue pillaging and rampaging by management.&#8221;<br \/>\nChapek took a 50% pay cut while Iger said he would forgo all of his salary during the pandemic. The company didn&#8217;t immediately return CNN Business&#8217; request for comment.<br \/>\nAbigail Disney doesn&#8217;t have a role within the company. She has previously blasted worker conditions at Disneyland and its pay. <\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m just a citizen who cares and I think that makes me free to say what I believe,&#8221; she said Tuesday. &#8220;But I am an heir.  And I do carry this name with me everywhere.
