At the time, I just thought he was very poor. I sometimes stayed at night in the campervan with him.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old dated Brueckner, a lifelong criminal with convictions for rape and child sex offences, for three months before they split over what she says was his growing obsession with young women who he would take to swingers\u2019 parties.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/09\/05\/00\/47517151-9958837-image-m-85_1630799278803.jpg\" height=\"623\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Nuray Oezgen, 52,\u00a0described her shock at discovering that she slept with him in a campervan police believe he may have used to kidnap the youngster<\/p>\n<p>Ms Oezgen \u2013 the first of Brueckner\u2019s former girlfriends to speak on the record \u2013 was twice interviewed by the Bundeskriminalamt, the German equivalent of the FBI, as part of the Madeleine inquiry before his name was made public by the authorities. She believes her former lover is capable of committing the crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I believe it is possible because Brueckner had two sides, two faces,\u2019 she said. \u2018He had a nasty and aggressive side to him.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Madeleine, then aged three, vanished from a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007 as her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, dined nearby with friends.<\/p>\n<p>German prosecutors appealed last May for information about Brueckner, who spent long periods in the Algarve in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>They released photographs of the campervan which the 44-year-old had been driving at the time and which may have been used during Madeleine\u2019s kidnap.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/09\/05\/00\/47517155-9958837-image-a-86_1630799315534.jpg\" height=\"1060\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The couple split over what she describes was his &#8216;growing obsession&#8217; with young women who he took to swinger parties. Pictured: Christian Brueckner\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle is thought to have been sold in the Algarve in 2015, and was recovered by German police.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Oezgen met Brueckner, now serving a seven-year jail term for the 2005 rape of a pensioner in Praia da Luz, in the German city of Hanover in 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was working as a mechanic at a garage owned by her uncle and he began drinking at a bar called Debakel where she was a barmaid.<\/p>\n<p>Brueckner charmed her with stories about his travels across Europe and they began a relationship, eventually renting a kiosk selling drinks and snacks and the neighbouring flat in Braunschweig, 40 miles east of Hanover.<\/p>\n<p>After moving there, Brueckner\u2019s behaviour became aggressive and he began drinking heavily and taking and dealing cannabis, said Ms Oezgen, who now lives near Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I would sit at the kiosk all day and he would be out drinking beer and Jagermeister with friends.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/09\/05\/00\/47517153-9958837-image-a-87_1630799433891.jpg\" height=\"845\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Madeleine, then aged three, vanished from a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007 as her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, dined nearby with friends<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They would come back and get drunk all night,\u2019 she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He started taking interest in young girls, schoolgirls, who used to come to the kiosk before they went to school.
