The policy, which think tanks warn will cost billions of pounds received overwhelming support from delegates at the party’s annual conference.<\/p>\n

Taking place virtually due to the pandemic, SNP delegates backed trialling a four day week by 509 votes to just 16.<\/p>\n

Supporters speaking in favour of the policy said it would make the case for splitting from the UK “loud and clear” and was part of a “winning combination for independence”.<\/p>\n

Establishing a fund to allow businesses to pilot the radical policy was a key pledge from the SNP at the Scottish elections in May.<\/p>\n

In today’s motion, delegates “applauded” the party for the proposals saying: “We want to do more to support people achieve a healthy work-life balance.”<\/p>\n
