THIS is the disturbing moment a pregnant woman desperately tried to jump from the second floor window of an apartment block – allegedly in a bid to escape the clutches of her monster husband.

Horrifying footage shows the woman place her leg over the window before her spouse appears to pull her head as he hauls her back into the apartment in Brazil.

A second clip shows the mum-of-one – who is 10-weeks pregnant – leaning backwards over the window sill before her allegedly abusive husband pulls her towards him as they struggle while he tries to close the window.

After recording the disturbing incident on Saturday in the town Rio de Janeiro, neighbours phoned the police who arrested the 32-year-old husband, reports Brazilian news outlet G1.

He reportedly became angry after discovering that his wife, 35, had written a note asking for help and thrown it out the window – but according to G1, he told authorities that the argument was "just a couple's fight".

The woman told the outlet she had been repeatedly beaten by her husband of two years throughout their relationship, and that he had threatened her and her four-year-old son, from a previous relationship.

She reportedly jumped out of the window in May to try to get away from her husband's alleged abuse, but continued to hope he would change.

"He was jealous and very possessive. He wouldn't let me go out on the street, just for work. I even lost my job," she told G1.

"When he attacked me, I was scared and couldn't work.

"I made up excuses because I stayed indoors.

"We always believed that the person can change, but the aggression continues over time. And it only gets worse.

"I didn't have the courage. I was ashamed."

Police superintendent Fernanda Fernandes says the neighbours who saw the incident unfold may have saved the woman's life.

"Maybe if the neighbours hadn't (called the police), filmed it, the victim would not have survived," Fernandes said.
