Princess Beatrice has been labelled "more respectful" than Meghan Markle by royal fans following the announcement of her new baby's name.

It was revealed yesterday that Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have named their new baby girl Sienna Elizabeth, a cute nod to the child's great-grandmother the Queen.

Fans had been eagerly awaiting the announcement since the princess gave birth at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London on September 18.

Meghan and Prince Harry honoured the Queen in a similar way after the birth of their baby girl on June 4 this year, using Her Majesty's pet name.

Lilibet Diana was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California and joined her older brother, 2-year-old Archie.

After Lilibet's name was revealed royal fans were split, with some thinking it was touching and others inappropriate considering the Sussexes' departure from the Royal Family.

Some experts were shocked that the Queen approved, and others saw it as a 'cynical ploy' to maintain a link to the royals.

Now, fans have drawn comparisons between the names and discussed how they reflect on their parents.

Announcing yesterday's news, Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden tweeted: "After the row over Prince Harry and Meghan giving their daughter the Queen's pet name, Lilibet, Princess Beatrice has chosen the more respectful Elizabeth as her baby's middle name.

"Her full name is Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi."

People were quick to offer their opinions, with many taking Beatrice's side.

"And that is how you do it. An established historical name. Not the personally created nickname that nobody else has," one person said.

Another royal fan added: "A lovely tribute as it should be and with respect. The pet names are private."

A third chimed: "That's how you pay tribute to someone special… not using the person's very private nickname! I absolutely love Sienna's name."

Another Twitter user perceptively pointed out that Sienna means a reddy-orange colour in Italian, meaning that the name could also be a tribute to the baby's red-headed grandmother Sarah Ferguson.
