Big\u00a0charities have laid off at least 4,200 workers during the pandemic, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.<\/span><\/p>\n The National Trust cut 1,767 of its 12,389 staff even though its cash reserves have swollen to more than \u00a3400 million.<\/p>\n Children’s charity Barnardo’s made 349 redundant \u2013 but will continue to pay the full salary of between \u00a3200,000 and \u00a3209,999 to departing chief executive Javed Khan until the end of the year.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The National Trust cut 1,767 of its 12,389 staff even though its cash reserves have swollen to more than \u00a3400 million (stock image)<\/p>\n Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, the British Heart Foundation and the RSPCA have also laid off workers.<\/p>\n Robin Osterley, chief executive of the Charity Retail Association, said: ‘It’s been disappointing to see so little support for the charity sector from the Government.’<\/p>\n
