{"id":141801,"date":"2021-10-15T00:08:21","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T00:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=141801"},"modified":"2021-10-15T00:08:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-15T00:08:21","slug":"prince-william-great-minds-should-focus-on-saving-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/business\/prince-william-great-minds-should-focus-on-saving-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince William: Great minds should focus on saving Earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><cite>London (CNN Business)<\/cite>Prince William has criticized billionaires who are focused on space tourism, saying they should instead be investing more time and money in saving Earth.<\/p>\n<p>The Duke of Cambridge spoke about the current rush for space travel in an interview with the BBC&#8217;s Newscast podcast, which aired on Thursday.<br \/>\nHe said: &#8220;We need some of the world&#8217;s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>William, a former air ambulance helicopter pilot, stated that he had &#8220;absolutely no interest&#8221; in going as high as space.<\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>He also expressed concerns over the environmental impact of space tourism, adding that there was a &#8220;fundamental question&#8221; over the carbon cost of space flights.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Prince William has said that efforts to save the Earth by the world&amp;#39;s &amp;quot;greatest minds&amp;quot; should come before space tourism.\" class=\"media__image\" src=\"\/\/cdn.cnn.com\/cnnnext\/dam\/assets\/211014054923-01-prince-william-file-large-169.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Prince William&#8217;s comments were broadcast just a day after &#8220;Star Trek&#8221; star William Shatner, 90, became the oldest person to go to space aboard a New Shepard spacecraft, developed by Jeff Bezos&#8217; Blue Origin \u2014  which blasted the billionaire himself into space this summer.<br \/>\nBezos isn&#8217;t the only wealthy entrepreneur to make the leap into space travel recently.<br \/>\nIn July, Richard Branson rode into space in a supersonic plane developed by his company, Virgin Galactic.<br \/>\nTesla CEO Elon Musk has also been making forays into the space business \u2014 he founded SpaceX and, in September, the company&#8217;s Inspiration4 flight carried four tourists on a three-day orbital mission.<br \/>\nBlue Origin, Virgin Galactic and SpaceX are all expected to continue on in their push to promote space tourism.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Jeff Bezos in the cabin of one of his Blue Origin spaceflights\" class=\"media__image\" src=\"\/\/cdn.cnn.com\/cnnnext\/dam\/assets\/210721103733-55-jeff-bezos-spaceflight-0720---cabin-large-169.jpg\"><\/p>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>The second in line to the British throne is a keen environmentalist and, later this month, will reveal the five winners of his Earthshot Prize \u2014 a Nobel-like prize for the environment.<br \/>\nThe father-of-three emphasized his desire to ensure that his own children and future generations won&#8217;t have to worry about repairing the Earth, adding that it would be an &#8220;absolute disaster&#8221; if his son, Prince George, were to be talking about saving the planet in 30 years&#8217; time.<br \/>\nSource: <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2021\/10\/14\/business\/prince-william-space-tourism-intl-scli\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>London (CNN Business)Prince William has criticized billionaires<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":141800,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23051],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
