President Joe Biden has chosen Boulder’s KC Becker, the recent speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives, for a top job in the Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n

In a news release Thursday, the White House announced Biden intends to appoint Becker to be administrator of the EPA’s Region 8, which covers Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, and 28 Tribal Nations.<\/p>\n

Becker, a Democrat, exited the legislature after being term-limited in 2020. She represented Boulder in the state House, ascending to the speakership for her final two years at the Capitol.<\/p>\n

While a legislator, Becker was known for work on aggressive climate-action policies, including the landmark 2019 state law meant to overhaul regulation of the state’s oil and gas industry.<\/p>\n

Becker is also an attorney who worked for nearly seven years as an attorney-advisor in the Solicitor\u2019s Office at the US Department of the Interior.<\/p>\n
