Recently, Australia\u2019s Perth Heat became the first team in professional sport to fully embrace Bitcoin and its Lightning Network.<\/p>\n
Perth Heat\u00a0is the most successful team in the\u00a0Australian Baseball League\u00a0(ABL), having won 15 Claxton Shields.<\/p>\n
On November 16, the club announced their \u201cpartnership with leading Bitcoin payments company\u00a0OpenNode\u00a0to accept Bitcoin payments and send Bitcoin payouts powered by the Lightning Network\u201d, thereby becoming \u201cthe first professional sports club in the world to fully embrace Bitcoin and the Lightning Network for payment acceptance and payroll for staff and players.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the club\u2019s press release, this partnership will allow them to pay players and staff members in Bitcoin, accept BTC payments for \u201csponsorships, merchandise, and ballpark concessions\u201d, and hold BTC in its balance sheet.<\/p>\n
In short, the Perth Heat has chosen to use Bitcoin as the standard for payments and payouts.<\/p>\n
