{"id":147258,"date":"2021-12-13T23:47:27","date_gmt":"2021-12-13T23:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=147258"},"modified":"2021-12-13T23:47:27","modified_gmt":"2021-12-13T23:47:27","slug":"shark-attack-survivor-relives-harrowing-moment-he-almost-lost-his-leg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/world-news\/shark-attack-survivor-relives-harrowing-moment-he-almost-lost-his-leg\/","title":{"rendered":"Shark attack survivor relives harrowing moment he almost lost his leg"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Shark attack survivor relives the terrifying moment he was mauled in shallow waters &#8211; and how he managed to escape the beast&#8217;s ferocious grip<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Brave survivor reveals the moment a giant three-metre bull shark gripped his leg<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Phillip Brown, 24, had been spear-fishing east of Cairns, Queensland on Sunday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Shark dislocated his knee and twisted his leg 180 degrees leaving a large gash<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The incident is the second shark attack in a matter of weeks in north Queensland<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A brave shark attack survivor who was mauled by a ferocious three-metre shark has revealed the terrifying moment he almost lost his leg to the beast.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Phillip Brown, 24, was spearfishing for barramundi off Rocky Island east of Cairns,\u00a0 Far North Queensland, when he was attacked in the shallow waters on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He recalled the harrowing moment he came face-to-face with the giant bull shark, who gripped onto his leg so hard it dislocated his kneecap.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I just thought it might be my last day, because look at me, I&#8217;m nothing much and he was a big shark,&#8217; the avid spearfisher told 7News.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/12\/13\/22\/51747275-10306039-image-m-15_1639434776141.jpg\" height=\"418\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Phillip Brown, 24, (pictured) was spearfishing for barramundi off Rocky Island east of Cairns, Far North Queensland on Sunday morning when he was attacked by a three-metre bull shark<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/12\/13\/22\/51747273-10306039-image-a-16_1639434851754.jpg\" height=\"473\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The avid spearfisher had been on the hunt for barramundi near a rocky islet in Yarrabah, east of Cairns, when he came face-to-face with the gigantic shark<\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown felt his leg twist and pop out of the socket as he made a beeline for a nearby rock, while attempting to deter the three-metre shark.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He called out to his friend and nephew &#8216;he&#8217;s got me&#8217; before ordering them to leave the water as quickly as they could.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The shark had me on the leg, so I grabbed my spear gun, spun around with it and stabbed him on top of the head,&#8217; the 24-year-old recalled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bull shark continued to linger in the shallows enticed by the blood in the water as the spearfisher scrambled to safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown tied his nephew&#8217;s shirt tightly around the spurting wound as the group jumped into his boat and headed for the mainland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite potential damage to his boat he encouraged his friend and nephew to ignore the low tide and drive straight onto the bank.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2021\/12\/13\/22\/51747897-10306039-image-a-17_1639434995123.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown said the bull shark that gripped onto his leg so hard it dislocated his knee was easily bigger than three metres (stock image)<\/p>\n<p>They carried the father-of-one to his truck and raced him to the local health centre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was later airlifted to Cairns Hospital where he was treated for a dislocated knee and a large gash that covered most of his calf.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bull shark had twisted the bottom half of the spearfisher&#8217;s leg 180 degrees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Brown believes a previous injury might have helped.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If I didn&#8217;t have the dislocated knee, he probably would have ripped it off,&#8217; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the traumatic attack he said he feels lucky to be alive and grateful his friend and nephew were there to help.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I thought it was my last time diving,&#8217; he said. &#8216;I knew what was going to happen.
