The <\/span>Novak Djokovic saga has divided opinions after the 34-year-old faced deportation when his visa was cancelled. The <\/span>Australian Border Force initially detained him and the Serbian tennis star was forced to spend several days in an immigration facility, which his family compared to “torture”.<\/p>\n

<\/b><\/p>\n

However, Mr Djokovic won his appeal to remain in Australia and a judge freed him from hotel detention, to the relief of his fans.<\/p>\n

Despite returning to practice on the tennis court, with photos showing him at Melbourne Park, the venue for the Australian Open, the government may still decide to deport him.<\/p>\n

The outcome has received polarised opinions, with some criticising the Australian government and some, the 7News’ on-screen duo including, criticising the tennis star’s actions.<\/p>\n

In a leaked video, Channel 7 presenter’s Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor comments were captured as the pair were seen sitting behind the newsdesk, with an image of Mr Djokovic behind them.<\/p>\n

Ms Maddern can be heard saying: “Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a**hole.<\/p>\n

“Whatever way you look at it…It is unfortunate that everyone stuffed up around him.<\/span><\/p>\n

“To go out when you know you’re Covid-positive…well, I don’t think he was even Covid-positive.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Amor replied: “That’s it, he’s an a**hole.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He got a bullsh*<\/span>t f*****<\/span>g excuse and then fell over his own f*****g lies.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s just what happens, right, that’s what happened.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms Maddern has since apologised for her harsh comments.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement on Wednesday, Craig McPherson, 7News’ Director of News and Public Affairs, revealed an investigation is underway to discover who leaked the illegal recording.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said: “The illegal recording was of a private conversation between two colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It was an underhanded, cowardly act in breach of the Victorian Listening Devices legislation the perpetrator of which will be accordingly dealt with when found.”<\/span><\/p>\n
