A GYM junkie who found himself locked in a 24 Hour Fitness overnight took a series of pictures to document his adventure.

The Utah facility was open only 20 hours a day, a fact that Dan Hill was not aware of when he went to work out on Saturday night.

Hill was afraid he would get arrested if he tried to leave the building, so he made himself at home.

"I called dispatch and the guy pauses for like 10 seconds and says, 'you're where?" Hill told KTVX. "And I said, 'I'm in 24 Hour Fitness, and there's an alarm system here and I don't want to get busted for breaking and entering."

Hilarious photos he posted on Facebook of the empty and spacious gym have been shared more than 10,000 times.

"They closed the doors and went home while I was swimming my laps in the pool," he wrote. "Doesn't the name suggest that they stay open 24 hours? Walking around trying to figure out how to get out."

Hill told KTVX that he thought the situation was "kinda funny at the start."

"You know, it was kinda like 'Home Alone,'" he told the station. "Like oh my gosh. I have this gym to myself."

In addition to calling the local dispatch in Sandy, he contacted his wife.

"She said find a comfortable place to sleep. LOL," he wrote.

After weighing his options, Hill ended up getting help from police.

"Free at last! Free at last! Thanks to three nice cops I am free at last," he wrote on Facebook with a photo of the three officers who came to his aid.

The fitness club apologized to Hill for the "unfortunate experience he had," and said a decision had been made recently to close "select clubs" from midnight to 4 a.m.

"In doing so, we have been helping members locate to nearby clubs that are open during the overnight hours," read the statement obtained by KTVX.

"We clearly did not do a good job of our closing procedures for this club on Saturday night and will reinforce our club procedures so that this incident doesn't occur in the future."
