A GROUP of Nazi vigilantes are patrolling the streets of a small German town following a series of attacks on locals by migrants, authorities said.

The mayor of Amberg Michael Cerny said yesterday that far-right activists have been seen in the community wearing high visibility red vests with the slogan “Protection Zones”.

This appears to be in response to several random attacks carried out by four teenage migrants on December 29 which left 12 people injured.

Four teens from Iran Syria and Afghanistan were arrested last weekend and are believed to have been drunk during the violent rampage.

Far-Right National Democratic Party (NPD) posted image and footage on Facebook of its members patrolling the streets of Amberg wearing the high-vis vests.

The controversial group has been branded neo-Nazi, white supremacist and anti-Semitic.

On Facebook, the NPD posted: “When we say we will create protection zones in Amberg, we mean it.”

Mr Cerny said he feared vigilantes were travelling to the town from other parts of Germany, reports the Mittelbayerischen Zeitung newspaper.

He said: “I can understand the uncertainty that I see in the reactions of some local people, but this hatred and the threats of violence coming from all over the country are going too far.”

Another far-right group called Kraut/Pol email the town’s authorities telling them “you have failed completely”, according to local media.

The email added: “Today we are sending two remote scouts to Amberg. We do not forget, we do not forgive.”

Saturday's attack in Amberg has shocked the local community.

Eyewitnesses claim a man was pushed down a flight of stairs in the spate of violence which broke out at about 6,30pm on Saturday.

A 13-year-old boy was allegedly kicked in the stomach and a 29-year-old landscape gardener was hit in the face.

Meanwhile a 17-year-old was rushed to hospital with a head injury.

Another teenager was branded a “hooker” before one of her friends was hit in the face when they tried to help, Bild reports.

While condemning the assault, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said a xenophobic attack in the town of Bottrop on migrants by a German man needed to be pursued with the same “determination”.
