trial can be followed throughout today by clicking HERE\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After seven days of testimony and dozens of court sketches of a blockbuster libel trial which has captivated millions of Brits, Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney are left waiting weeks for the judge&#8217;s ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The trial had been expected to conclude yesterday but was extended to allow time for each Wag&#8217;s lawyer to prepare their closing statements which were delivered in turn at the Royal Courts of Justice in London today.<\/p>\n<p>Dating back to 2019, when Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about her to the press after using Agatha Christie-style deduction skills, Vardy brought the libel action against her fellow Wag in a bid to clear her name.<\/p>\n<p>The 40-year-old, though, was accused of lying under oath and giving implausible evidence by Rooney&#8217;s lawyer as the case came to its conclusion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vardy was already fuming when she arrived in Court 13, and her mood didn\u2019t improve one bit as the morning wore on.<\/p>\n<p>Before proceedings began, she vented her fury on a Sun journalist in the press box \u2013 not the author \u2013 over a front-page story, which she and her husband \u2018categorically deny\u2019, claiming they were upping sticks and moving to the US.<\/p>\n<p>She hissed that the article was \u2018cruel\u2019 and had upset her children.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly enough, the byline of the journalist on the story which so angered her was The Sun\u2019s showbiz supremo Simon Boyle, whose name had come up a lot in the case, and who has been described as a \u2018close friend\u2019 of hers.<\/p>\n<p>Once the final day started, after 38 minutes of being called a liar, Rebekah had clearly heard enough of Coleen\u2019s lawyer David Sherborne\u2019s closing speech and swept out into the corridor while the court was still in session.<\/p>\n<p>She didn\u2019t appear again until much later in the morning, but with a face like thunder as the attack on her credibility continued unabated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2022\/05\/19\/17\/58031093-10834281-Rebekah_Vardy_looked_downcast_as_her_3million_libel_action_again-a-15_1652979445375.jpg\" height=\"698\" width=\"962\"><\/p>\n<p>Rebekah Vardy looked downcast as her \u00a33million libel action against Coleen Rooney came to its conclusion earlier today<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2022\/05\/19\/17\/58031089-10834281-Vardy_carries_a_tissue_in_hand_and_looks_downcast_as_she_leaves_-a-13_1652979445140.jpg\" height=\"825\" width=\"962\"><\/p>\n<p>Vardy carries a tissue in hand and looks downcast as she leaves at the end of the libel case followed by her legal team<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2022\/05\/19\/17\/58020755-10834281-Wayne_and_Coleen_Rooney_arrive_at_Manchester_Airport_on_Thursday-a-14_1652979445161.jpg\" height=\"1409\" width=\"962\"><\/p>\n<p>Wayne and Coleen Rooney arrive at Manchester Airport on Thursday as the head to Dubai with their children and her parents <\/p>\n<p>Rebekah must have been kicking herself that she hadn\u2019t booked a holiday like Coleen and Wayne had, as photographs appeared online of the Rooney family setting off for Dubai on a sunshine break.<\/p>\n<p>By the afternoon, Rebekah looked a bit happier as it was time for her own lawyer Hugh Tomlinson QC to close his case in his much more diffident style, a stark contrast to the bronzed bulldog of the bar Mr Sherborne.<\/p>\n<p>On a couple of occasions Mr Tomlinson managed to mix up the names Vardy and Rooney, which wasn\u2019t ideal, but luckily someone was still awake and pointed out his mistake.<\/p>\n<p>So, after \u00a33million or so of costs had clocked up on the barristers\u2019 meters, this two-and-a-half year case which has fascinated and enraged the public day after day, finally drew to a close.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Tomlinson said towards the end of his closing speech: \u2018This is really a falling out between two individuals over what is essentially a private matter.\u2019 If only it had stayed that way.<\/p>\n<p>As Mr Tomlinson finished his speech, it fell to Mrs Justice Steyn to address the parties.<\/p>\n<p>If any members of the public expected her to pronounce, Wagatha-style: \u2018And the winner is\u2026\u2026\u2019 they were sorely disappointed.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected to be several week before Her Ladyship hands down the judgement.<\/p>\n<h3>What happens if someone lies under oath? It\u00a0 explains that perjury is when you have lawfully sworn as a witness or interpreter in a judicial proceeding to tell the truth &#8211; but are found to be lying.<\/p>\n<p><span>What happens if someone is convicted?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The punishment for perjury in the UK usually ends in a prison sentence. There are also fines of up to \u00a310,000.<\/p>\n<p>It is triable in a court and and the charge is imprisonment of a term not exceeding 7 years, or a fine, or both.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011 disgraced politician Tommy Sheridan was jailed for three years for perjury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span>How can you beat a perjury charge?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The key defence is if a defendent can prove they were unaware that what they were saying was not true &#8211; even if it is found to be false.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Or if they can prove they weren&#8217;t wrong in the first place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During his closing statement, Mrs Rooney&#8217;s barrister said\u00a0Rebekah Vardy &#8216;lied under oath&#8217;, gave &#8216;implausible&#8217; evidence that &#8216;cannot be trusted&#8217; and deleted incriminating WhatsApp messages in a fatally flawed libel action she brought against her rival Coleen that should never have made it to the High Court.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrity lawyer David Sherborne claimed Mrs Vardy&#8217;s case had &#8216;disintegrated&#8217; during the week-long trial in an eviscerating attack on the wife of Premier League footballer Jamie Vardy\u00a0at the Royal Courts of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Vardy also came in for criticism, with Mr Sherborne accusing him of not being willing to be called as a witness so he could avoid giving evidence under oath. Instead he gave a statement outside accusing Wayne Rooney of talking &#8216;nonsense&#8217; about his wife.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Rooney&#8217;s bronzed barrister, who has also represented Meghan Markle, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Sir Paul McCartney and Sienna Miller, said: &#8216;It&#8217;s not lost on the court, I&#8217;m sure, that Mr Vardy was perfectly willing to give a statement not under oath but apparently not willing to provide one for the process of these proceedings.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne said that Mrs Vardy&#8217;s case had &#8216;almost entirely disintegrated&#8217; over the course of the trial, which entered its seventh and final day today.<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8216;Anyone could be forgiven for wondering how on earth this case has been allowed to get this far. She [Coleen] finds herself at the end of a seven-day libel trial, and for what?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne said: &#8216;Mrs Vardy was a highly unreliable witness. Her evidence should be treated with the utmost caution. Its accuracy simply cannot be trusted. The contrast in the way Mrs Rooney gave evidence could not have been clearer.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He said Coleen &#8216;had been honest&#8217; while Rebekah&#8217;s &#8216;evidence was &#8216;ill-considered and lacking in candour&#8217;.&#8217; He said Mrs Vardy&#8217;s memory had been &#8216;selective&#8217; as she gave evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the &#8216;disappearance&#8217; of the WhatsApp messages between Rebekah and her agent and publicist Caroline Watt, central to the case, Mr Sherborne said her explanation that the loss happened during export to her solicitors was &#8216;impossible.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The fact Ms Watt&#8217;s phone was &#8216;dropped in the North Sea&#8217; during a trip to Scotland was &#8216;fishy enough&#8217;, Mr Sherborne said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There is only one conclusion and that is that Mrs Vardy deleted the WhatsApp chat and it was a deliberate lie to cover up her wrongdoing. There is no other plausible explanation. The only conclusion the court can reach is that she deleted the WhatsApp chat and then lied under oath about it&#8217;, he told Mrs Justice Steyn.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Vardy, who left the courtroom with a laptop in hand about half an hour after the hearing started this morning and returned with a bottle of Lucozade an hour later, says she brought the case so she could clear her name and &#8216;establish her innocence and vindicate her reputation&#8217; after Mrs Rooney accused her personally leaking false stories to The Sun in the now infamous Wagatha Christie Instagram post in October 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The burden lies on us to establish on a balance of probabilities that the post is substantially true. It is what she [Coleen] believed at the time&#8230; and it is what she believes even more so now that we have got to the end of the case&#8217;, Mr Sherborne said.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing his statement he said: &#8216;Mrs Rooney was right in what she said in her reveal post, and she still is&#8217;. Rebekah&#8217;s lawyer Hugh Tomlinson QC will give his final statement this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>As the Wagatha Christie case came to an extraordinary crescendo today, the High Court also heard:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Rebekah Vardy was a &#8216;highly unreliable witness&#8217; whose memory was &#8216;selective&#8217; while Coleen Rooney &#8216;had been honest&#8217;, court hears. Mrs Rooney&#8217;s legal team accused her of lying and deliberately deleting WhatsApp messages;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Coleen Rooney&#8217;s barrister David Sherborne also had a go\u00a0at Jamie Vardy after the Leicester City striker complained about allegations of his wife Rebekah&#8217;s media antics outside the Royal Courts of Justice &#8211; but did not give evidence under oath;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span>Mr\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span>Sherborne claimed Mrs Vardy had carried out &#8216;targeted&#8217; deletions of her WhatsApp messages with agent Caroline Watts\u00a0and said a &#8216;substantial&#8217; amount of vital evidence had been lost in the case due to &#8216;deliberate deletion&#8217;.<\/span><span>\u00a0He told the High Court that even Rebekah&#8217;s own expert&#8217; had concluded the way the data has been lost was &#8216;surprising&#8217; saying there was &#8216;no plausible explanation for this&#8217;;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Sherborne told the High Court that Rebekah had a &#8216;long history of setting up fake staged&#8217; photos and pointed out how she initially denied organising the pap opportunity in Russia before claiming she couldn&#8217;t remember the incident;<\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><span>The court heard that Rebekah and her publicist Caroline Watt are the &#8216;only possible suspects&#8217; for leaking Coleen&#8217;s gender selection and flooded basement posts to the media, and that it is &#8216;clearly more than probable&#8217; that they secretly passed on information about Coleen&#8217;s 2019 &#8216;car crash&#8217;;<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><span>Mr Sherborne said Rebekah&#8217;s excuse that she didn&#8217;t reply to Caroline Watt&#8217;s &#8216;it was me&#8217; text because she was watching Dancing On Ice is &#8216;implausible&#8217; and &#8216;inconsistent&#8217;. She claimed that &#8216;the word &#8216;leak&#8217; comes so easily from Mrs Vardy&#8217;s mouth&#8217;;<\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><span>The barrister claimed the Wag had carried out &#8216;targeted&#8217; deletions of her WhatsApp messages with Caroline Watt and said a &#8216;substantial&#8217; amount of vital evidence had been lost in the case due to &#8216;deliberate deletion&#8217;;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Mrs Vardy\u00a0<span>left the courtroom with a laptop in hand about half an hour after\u00a0<\/span>the hearing started this morning. He was not in court today due to a Leicester fixture tonight<\/p>\n<p>David Sherborne highlighted the failure of Jamie Vardy to give evidence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Despite Mr Vardy not providing witness evidence to the Court, he was willing to make a statement outside the High Court on Day 6.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne read out Jamie&#8217;s press statement from Friday which said: &#8216;Wayne is talking nonsense. He must be confused because he never spoke to me about issues concerning Becky&#8217;s media work at Euro 2016. There was nothing to speak about, I know this because I discuss everything with Becky.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Added Mr Sherborne: &#8216;Mr Vardy was perfectly willing to give a statement when not under oath but was apparently unwilling to provide one for the purposes of these proceedings (despite the fact that he was aware since 1 April 2022 that Mr Rooney was giving evidence), or else the Claimant [Rebekah] did not wish for his evidence to be tested.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>David Sherborne claimed he had proved that Rebekah Vardy had &#8216;regularly and frequently&#8217; leaked information to The Sun about his client and others in her sphere.\u00a0<span>\u00a0He said<\/span>: &#8216;Just because she [Vardy] was not the one who pulled the trigger on occasion, it does not mean she was not responsible&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne also said the court &#8216;can and should conclude&#8217; that the loss of WhatsApp messages between Rebekah Vardy and her publicist Caroline Watt was &#8216;the result of deliberate deletion&#8217;. &#8216;The loss of documents is substantial in this case,&#8217; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne said these were deliberately deleted &#8211; despite claims from Vardy they were lost accidentally.<\/p>\n<p>He described the case as a &#8216;deliberate trail of destruction&#8217; and a &#8216;series of improbable events&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Vardy&#8217;s suggestion that a &#8216;new phone&#8217; was responsible for the loss of messages is &#8216;wholly unsupported by the evidence&#8217; said Mr Sherborne, with no evidence a new device was used to log into Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If there was no new device, and the experts are agreed that there was not, then the only explanation is manual deletion,&#8217; he added.<\/p>\n<p>He said Rebekah deleted the messages to &#8216;cover up the collusion&#8217; between her and Ms Watts, claiming they had been &#8216;corrupted&#8217; during the exporting process.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She says the WhatsApp export was carried out on an old laptop which stopped working between October and December 2019 and no longer functions,&#8217; says the lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>When Coleen&#8217;s legal team asked to forensically examine the laptop they were told it had been &#8216;disposed of&#8217; by Rebekah because it &#8216;had been damaged beyond repair&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;No explanation has been given for this deliberate destruction of evidence&#8217;, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She could not recall when she actually destroyed the laptop but accepted it was after she had been told to preserve everything.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Then, the fact Ms Watt&#8217;s phone was &#8216;dropped in the north sea&#8217; during a trip to Scotland is &#8216;fishy enough&#8217;, Mr Sherborne said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If Ms Watt&#8217;s phone had not been destroyed then the claimant&#8217;s messages (including all media files) would have been accessible. It was therefore necessary for both to be destroyed to properly cover up any wrongdoing and conceal discovery.\u00a0 RIP Ms Watts phone&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>He then pointed to the fact that the court had also not heard evidence from agent Caroline Watt who he alleged &#8216;clearly had repeated contact with these journalists&#8217;. She then said she did not remember the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was hard to keep up with her explanations as she gave evidence in relation to this leak. Her case shifted at every stage with further and more fanciful explanations being made in the witness box.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne described Rebekah\u2019s explanation that she \u2018leaked\u2019 information about her own miscarriage \u2018utterly hopeless\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>On 6 August 2019, she messaged Ms Watt about an unidentified girl: \u2018She&#8217;s gone and done it now leak the Maldives stuff x\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>An article which later appeared explained Danielle Lloyd had a miscarriage &#8211; there is no mention of the Maldives in that article, with the Maldives honeymoon reported on 11 April 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah claimed she had not leaked anything about Ms Lloyd and said the word \u2018leak\u2019 should mean \u2018publish an article about her own miscarriage in Closer Magazine\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This makes no sense,\u2019 said Mr Sherborne.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s clear that she\u2019s telling Ms Watt to leak private information about someone else, the Maldives stuff. I can&#8217;t believe it. That&#8217;s nonsense.&#8217; &#8216;<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah told the court: &#8216;Because if I may, my Lady, I have seen the conversation that follows, and without wanting to make fun of anyone it was actually Dancing on Ice, and Gemma Collins face-planting on the ice was the next message.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;That&#8217;s what I had on in the background when I was bathing the children.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne said in his closing argument: &#8216;The Claimant no longer persists with her explanation that it was all a joke<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The novel fallback argument that she missed the message because she was &#8216;bathing the children&#8217; is implausible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Further, the later suggestion that she was watching Gemma Collins on a television programme called Dancing On Ice as she bathed them is inconsistent with her evidence in answer to an earlier question in cross-examination that she didn&#8217;t really watch TV.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The case brought by Mrs Vardy, which has captivated millions and cost the WAGs a small fortune, was due to finish yesterday but went into extra time to allow barristers to prepare their final arguments at the Royal Courts of Justice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah arrived at the Royal Courts of Justice on The Strand at 10am, but was not accompanied by her husband Jamie who is playing for Leicester City against Chelsea tonight. She wore a\u00a0\u00a3900 business-like black trouser suit with a green top. It was also the first time she wore her hair down and\u00a0without sunglasses. She added a \u00a35,000 heart-shaped rose gold Chopard diamond necklace around her throat.<\/p>\n<p>The Rooneys are believed to have booked to go abroad believing it would all be over by now.\u00a0The couple have sat through every day of the evidence but missed today&#8217;s closing speeches because they had a holiday booked with their children\u00a0Kai, Cass, Klay and Kit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The family were given permission from the judge to be absent. Mrs Justice Steyn will hear the final arguments today before publishing a written judgment in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not known where the family are off for their sunshine break, but it has <span>been timed for the end of the Championship season, which saw manager Wayne&#8217;s Derby County relegated to League One after finishing second from bottom. Pre-season training will begin again in early to mid June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The blockbuster trial has captivated millions with its twists and turns, and even split households into #TeamRooney or #TeamVardy factions.<\/p>\n<p>The High Court trial centres around a viral social media post in October 2019, in which Coleen, 36, said she had carried out a &#8216;sting operation&#8217; and accused Rebekah, 40, of leaking &#8216;false stories&#8217; about her private life to the press.<\/p>\n<p>Coleen, the wife of former England footballer Wayne Rooney, publicly claimed an account behind three fake stories she had posted on a personal Instagram account with The Sun newspaper was Rebekah&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah, who is married to Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, denies leaking stories to the media and is suing her fellow footballer&#8217;s wife for libel, while Coleen is defending the claim on the basis her post was &#8216;substantially true&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Over six days in courtroom number 13 at the Royal Courts of Justice, the pair have each given evidence, as has Rooney, also 36, who played for Everton and Manchester United and now manages Derby County.<\/p>\n<p>Outlining Rebekah&#8217;s case on May 10, her barrister Hugh Tomlinson QC said she had &#8216;no choice&#8217; but to bring the case against Coleen so she could clear her name and &#8216;establish her innocence and vindicate her reputation&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>David Sherborne, representing Coleen, told judge Mrs Justice Steyn that the case is essentially a &#8216;detective story&#8217; and &#8216;like any good detective story, you never find a person standing over the body with a smoking gun&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>He said there was &#8216;inference&#8217;, adding: &#8216;You just have to conclude that it is more likely than not that Mrs Vardy was responsible, either directly or through Ms (Caroline &#8211; Mrs Vardy&#8217;s friend and agent) Watt.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Both footballers&#8217; wives have been seated just feet apart in court, in front of their barristers, for each day of the hearing. There was no hearing yesterday, but Rooney has attended every day. Vardy only appeared on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The fake stories Coleen planted on her Instagram during the sting operation featured her travelling to Mexico for a &#8216;gender selection&#8217; procedure, her planning to return to TV and the basement flooding at her home.<\/p>\n<p>In a now infamous post on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, she wrote: &#8216;I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them. It&#8217;s &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. Rebekah Vardy&#8217;s account.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>MailOnline readers on either #TeamVardy or #TeamRooney have called for the case to be televised &#8211; and joked about bringing out the popcorn rather than doing a day&#8217;s work &#8211; while completely captivated by three days of Rebekah&#8217;s extraordinary evidence, Coleen&#8217;s debut in the witness box and star witness Rooney&#8217;s testimony.<\/p>\n<p>Others have obsessed over the rivals&#8217; expensive outfits as they arrive and the often comical court sketches of Rooney, whose drawn likeness has been compared to Lenin, Mike Tyson and even the humble Maris Piper potato.<\/p>\n<p>In six days of evidence, Rebekah compared Peter Andre &#8216;s penis to a &#8216;chipolata&#8217;, and there were tears of laughter when she said arguing with Coleen was like arguing with a pigeon because &#8216;it&#8217;s still going to s**t in your hair&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>There were more laughs when Vardy was bamboozled by a reference to Davy Jones&#8217; Locker when the court heard her phone ended up at the bottom of the North Sea. It was awkward for me to speak to a teammate about his wife. It wasn&#8217;t my place to speak to Mrs Vardy. Rebekah claims her comments were not about Coleen.<\/p>\n<p><span>Rebekah Vardy &#8216;gave a photographer access to her Instagram account so he could sell stories&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2022\/05\/19\/17\/57886345-10834281-The_court_had_previously_heard_Rebekah_sat_behind_Coleen_to_maxi-a-27_1652979446656.jpg\" height=\"668\" width=\"470\"><\/p>\n<p>The court had previously heard Rebekah sat behind Coleen to &#8216;maximise media attention&#8217; <\/p>\n<p>Rebekah Vardy gave a photographer access to her Instagram account so he could sell stories, the court heard.<\/p>\n<p>Public relations consultant Penelope Addarewa told how she was in a bistro with &#8216;a well known&#8217; person who she overheard discussing the matter with photographer Danny Hayward.<\/p>\n<p>She said she was &#8216;taken aback&#8217; after hearing the &#8216;revelations.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Addarewa said the claim was made during a 10-15 minute conversation which took place in the aftermath of Coleen Rooney&#8217;s bombshell post and the &#8216;media storm that followed in October 2019.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8216;They were talking about Coleen and Rebekah and how it&#8217;s all going off here&#8217;. Danny said Becky was keeping to her story or words to that effect. He was talking a lot about Becky. He was just so blaze. I was just taken aback. I was really surprised.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The mystery man, known only as &#8216;Y&#8217; in the court, was speaking to Mr Hayward had not arrived at the meeting but the conversation took place on a speakerphone.<\/p>\n<p>She said in her statement: &#8216;The topic of Mrs Rooney and Mrs Vardy came up during their &#8216;chat&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I cannot recall what exactly got them on to the topic but I specifically recall Danny mentioning that he had a means of access to Mrs Vardy&#8217;s Instagram account and how he had that means of access for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Their discussion of this topic was promoted by Mrs Rooney&#8217;s statement some days earlier. Danny seemed to be speaking as though he even had a means of access to Mrs Vardy&#8217;s Instagram account at the time of the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Danny also mentioned that he had been involved in the sale of stories using Mrs Vardy&#8217;s Instagram account as the source for the story.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Y and Danny did not discuss the specifics of any particular story but he spoke openly in general terms about the fact that stories were sold with Mrs Vardy&#8217;s Instagram account as the source.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I specifically recall Danny saying that Mrs Vardy was not only aware that Danny had a means of access to her account but also that she was well aware that access had been and was being used to take content and pass it to the press.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This much was abundantly clear to me from listening to the exchange, though there was no express discussion of Mrs Vardy personally benefitting from a financial perspective and it would therefore be speculative for me to suggest so.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>She said the &#8216;boasts&#8217; were said in a &#8216;blaze&#8217; way. Mrs Adaarewa added: &#8216;From the discussions between them it was clear to me that they all worked closely together regularly, including Caroline Watt, who had been scheduled to attend the meeting but who had not in fact attended, and that they had worked and collaborated together on what seemed like a number of matters in the past. &#8216;<\/p>\n<p>She declined to give the name of the mystery man saying it was &#8216;unfair&#8217; and she did not want to &#8216;upset his work&#8217;. It&#8217;s happened quite a few times and I&#8217;ve dealt with it. We&#8217;ve dealt with it as a couple, as a family. There are a few things that have been publicised over a few years.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Rebekah&#8217;s response to her &#8216;troubles&#8217;, Coleen said: &#8216;I did feel that when there&#8217;s tough times going on, I felt Mrs Vardy would message more. I felt It&#8217;s when there are things in the news, she would message me and say How are you?&#8217;. I felt like it was fishing for information.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The court heard one occasion when Rebekah went &#8216;fishing for information&#8217; happened hours after her husband allegedly &#8216;spent time&#8217; with the barmaid in Florida. Coleen told how Rebekah got in contact after The Sun told how she was threatening to quit the US and return to Britain after Rooney&#8217;s encounter with Vicki Rosiek when he was playing for DC United in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Making contact with Coleen at lunchtime on February 11 2019, the day after the article appeared, Rebekah wrote: &#8216;Hi my love! Hope you are ok! Just saw another s***ty story online! Can they not just leave you guys alone&#8230;I don&#8217;t know how you do it! It&#8217;s relentless&#8230;stay strong. Sending hugs.<\/p>\n<p>Coleen replied: &#8216;Thanks, just a pain in a**e&#8230;it&#8217;s the kids half term so just gonna come home.&#8217; Messaging Coleen back, Rebekah wrote: &#8216;It&#8217;s a joke! Asked whether the best thing to do would have been to warn her this was going on, she asserted that Rebekah had told a &#8216;lot of lies&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, she added that not only did she think it was Rebekah&#8217;s account that was leaking stories to The Sun, but also Rebekah herself was aware. &#8216;I believe she knew all along&#8217;, she said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Coleen told how she did not contact her rival after making her Wagatha Christie discovery as &#8216;did not believe a word that was coming out of her mouth&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining why she made her &#8216;It&#8217;s\u2026 Rebekah Vardy&#8217;s Account&#8217; post instead of contacting Rebekah, she told the court &#8216;I thought maybe if I did approach her she might twist it and cover it up somehow and might not be truthful so I didn&#8217;t give her the opportunity.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Asked about Rebekah&#8217;s response to the post she said: &#8216;She said she had zero interest in what was going on in my life which I didn&#8217;t think was true because she talks about me a lot. It was quite hard keeping it to myself but I had to do it if I wanted to find out who was doing it to me.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>During cross-examination about her actions, 36-year-old Coleen also told Mr Tomlinson at the \u00a33million trial:\u00a0&#8216;Yes I did lie, it was a cover-up for what I was investigating, I had my suspicions.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The court heard that Coleen unfollowed Rebekah in early 2019 and received a message a month later asking her if Rebekah had &#8216;done something to offend you.&#8217; The court heard that on March 3 that year, Rebekah sent Coleen a note saying: &#8216;I saw you had unfollowed me and I wasn&#8217;t following you anymore on Instagram&#8230;just wanted to ask if I had done something or offended you in anyway? A High Court judge, Mrs Justice Steyn, says the bid was brought too late and previous opportunities to make the claim had not been taken.<\/p>\n<p><span>April 13<\/span> &#8211; Ms Watt is not fit to give oral evidence at the upcoming libel trial, the High Court is told as the case returns for another hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The agent revokes permission for her witness statement to be used, and withdraws her waiver which would have allowed Sun journalists to say whether she was a source of the allegedly leaked stories.<\/p>\n<p><span>April 29<\/span> &#8211; Rebekah &#8216;appears to accept&#8217; that her agent was the source of allegedly leaked stories, Coleen&#8217;s barrister David Sherborne tells the High Court. He argues that a new witness statement submitted by Rebekah suggests Ms Watt was the source but Rebekah claims she &#8216;did not authorise or condone her&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah&#8217;s lawyer Hugh Tomlinson says the statement did not contain &#8216;any change whatever in the pleaded case&#8217;, with her legal team having no communication with Ms Watt.<\/p>\n<p><span>May 10 onwards<\/span> &#8211; The trial begins.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah Vardy was dramatically accused of lying after she blamed heavy drinking for failing to remember the details of a 2018 World Cup paparazzi photo she allegedly helped to set up &#8211; as the Wagatha Christie libel trial entered its third day.<\/p>\n<p>She denied the allegation this morning. But when asked for details by barrister David Sherborne &#8211; acting for her rival Coleen Rooney &#8211; she said: &#8216;If I&#8217;m completely honest I had been drinking quite a bit.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne cuttingly replied: &#8216;I would hope you&#8217;re honest because you&#8217;re sitting in a witness box.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He then added: &#8216;Mrs Vardy, this is the first time that you have suggested that your recollection of events has been affected by drinking \u2013 that&#8217;s a lie, isn&#8217;t it?&#8217;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The High Court heard how Rebekah received a text from her agent, Ms Watt, announcing &#8216;it was me&#8217; after Coleen first publicly claimed that someone had been leaking stories from her private Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>Asked by Mr Sherborne why did not challenge her, Rebekah said it was because she had been &#8216;watching Dancing on Ice&#8217; and was distracted by Gemma Collins&#8217;s infamous &#8216;face-plant&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In another bizarre exchange, the barrister referred to Ms Watt&#8217;s claim that she had lost her phone after it had fallen off a boat into the North Sea.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was now &#8216;lying at the bottom of sea in Davy Jones&#8217; locker&#8217;,&#8217; only for Rebekah to ask the court: &#8216;Who is Davy Jones?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Mr Sherborne quizzed Rebekah about a series of messages she exchanged with her agent which allegedly show them working together to organise the 2018 World Cup paparazzi photo.<\/p>\n<p>The group of WAGs in the snap included Marcus Rashford&#8217;s girlfriend Lucia Loi, Kyle Walker&#8217;s partner Annie Kilner and Harry Maguire&#8217;s fianc\u00e9e Fern Hawkins &#8211; who was left &#8216;upset and embarrassed&#8217; when it emerged in the media.<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah said Ms Watt had arranged for a photographer to take pictures of her as she left her hotel but denied giving the photographer the location of either the hotel or the restaurant where the WAGs were having dinner.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard Rebekah texted Ms Watt about travel arrangements from the hotel to the restaurant. There were exchanges about last minute changes in travel arrangements on the night.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne suggested that a message to Ms Watt which said, &#8216;I have bought about 10 minutes&#8217; referred to the fact Rebekah was delaying some of the women from posting a group photograph on social media because a photographer hiding in the bushes by the hotel had taken a picture of them all and they &#8216;didn&#8217;t want to lose their exclusive&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Rebekah said, &#8216;Well, it reads like that&#8217; but said she &#8216;couldn&#8217;t recall&#8217; the details due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed. &#8216;The plans changed,&#8217; she added. &#8216;I recall it may have been raining. No one wants to walk when they&#8217;re dressed up in the rain.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne accused Rebekah of changing her story about what happened and reminded her that she had signed a statement of truth when she made legal declarations, risking a contempt of court action if she lied.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;You can&#8217;t get your story straight,&#8217; he said to her, adding that this was &#8216;because you&#8217;re lying&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne asked Rebekah why she was &#8216;pulling a face&#8217; when he said he was going to refer to a witness statement made by the FA&#8217;s family liaison officer, Harpreet Robertson.<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah &#8211; who has claimed the representative took an instant dislike to her &#8211; said: &#8216;Because it was Ms Robertson again.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Quoting from the statement, Mr Sherborne Ms Robertson said other members of the group and a member of the England squad were upset that they had been &#8216;set up&#8217; in US\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Rebekah denied leaking information about Coleen&#8217;s 2019 car crash in Washington DC to the media.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne quizzed Jamie Vardy&#8217;s wife over an article in The Sun about how Coleen had narrowly escaped injury in a horror crash while husband Wayne was playing in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Coleen had posted a picture of her badly damaged Honda on her private Instagram account, the court heard.<\/p>\n<p>The story quoted a source who said: &#8216;Coleen ended up having a bad smash when she was driving the family car. One side of the car was completely caved in. She couldn&#8217;t drive it away and it looked like a total write off.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The day after the message was posted, Ms Watt sent a message to Rebekah saying: &#8216;Am I imagining it or did you say yesterday that Coleen had crashed her Honda?&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Rebekah replied: &#8216;She defo has&#8217; &#8211; and instructed Ms Watt to go into Coleen&#8217;s account. She and Ms Watts were in a box hosted by The Sun, the court heard, and the journalist who wrote the car crash article a few days later, Andy Halls, was also there.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sherborne accused Rebekah of changing her story on whether or not she knew Halls was there. And most of the titters in Court 13 have arisen when Vardy has been on the stand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A definite runner-up would be the moment that the Leicester City WAG revealed that a crucial conversation between Vardy and her agent Caroline Watt was cut short because Vardy had been distracted by reality star Gemma Collins&#8217; &#8216;faceplant&#8217; on Dancing on Ice.<\/p>\n<p>In court, Vardy agreed that her publicist Caroline Watt &#8216;appeared to be the source&#8217; of a news story on Coleen Rooney&#8217;s 2019 car crash after the agent admitted &#8216;it was me&#8217; in a text message.<\/p>\n<p>But the WAG has told the libel trial that she did not reply to Watt&#8217;s message because she was distracted by the ice skating fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vardy was referring to the moment the celebrity tripped and fell face-first on the ice during one of the routines in the ITV show.<\/p>\n<p>The cup for the funniest moment though would probably go for Vardy&#8217;s bemusement at a nautical reference.
