The network runs on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism called Nightshade, which aims to provide dynamic scalability and stabilizes fees.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>NEAR is the native utility token of the network and has the following utility:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Fees for processing transactions and storing data.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>To run a validator node on the network via staking NEAR tokens.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Used for governance votes to determine how network resources are allocated and where the protocol\u2019s future technical direction will go.<\/em>\u201c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoglobe.s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com\/2022\/09\/Screenshot-2022-09-01-at-08.47.26-1.png\"><\/p>\n<p>On April 6, the NEAR Foundation announced that it had raised $350 million in its latest funding round, which comes less than three months after it\u00a0announced\u00a0the close of a $150 million funding round led by Three Arrows Capital.<\/p>\n<p>As The Block\u00a0reported, this $350 million round was \u201cled by Tiger Global, with participation from Republic Capital, Hashed, FTX Ventures, Dragonfly Capital, and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Curtius, a partner at Tiger Global, said in a statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>NEAR\u00a0is poised to be a leading smart contract blockchain platform, combining first-rate technology with a fast-growing developer ecosystem. We\u2019re excited to support\u00a0NEAR\u00a0as we ramp up our investments in the digital asset space.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p>On August 10, Coinbase announced that it planned to list $NEAR:<\/p>\n<p>Then, yesterday (August 31), Coinbase announced that $NEAR would be listed on September 1 and that trading would begin on or after 4:00 p.m. UTC on September 1 providing that \u201cliquidity conditions are met\u201d; however, it also pointed out that \u201csupport for NEAR may be restricted in some supported jurisdictions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>September 11 is the date for the start a four-day event named NEARCON 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal.
