Vladimir Putin has left a group of gifted Russian schoolchildren baffled after he gave a speech to them that included a bizarre joke about a \u201crubber bum\u201d.<\/p>\n
The paranoid Russian leader had insisted that all of the kids attending the event were tested for Covid-19, and then quarantined for two weeks, to avoid any risk of infection.<\/p>\n
The pupils were then subjected to a rambling, propaganda-tinged speech about Ukraine\u2019s relationship to Russia in which Putin spoke warmly about his time as a KGB agent.<\/p>\n

He told the children that his old boss \u201cdid illegal work overseas\u201d for many years, and despite the dangerous missions he undertook \u201cdid not expect gratitude from the Motherland.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stressing the importance of hard work, he said \u201cYou need to be motivated to reach your goal and, of course, work hard. Working hard is a talent in itself."<\/p>\n

Giggling to himself, Putin continued: \u201cIt's not just, excuse me, a rubber bum. It is a talent to force oneself to work, and to be able to do it productively.\u201d<\/p>\n
The audience of nine to 12-year-olds remained silent after Putin delivered his strange "joke" and Russian social media users were also unsure how to react.<\/p>\n
One commenter said: \u201cI am confused. I could at least understand his previous \u2018jokes\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another demanded: "What's behind the weird joke from our dictator?"<\/p>\n

Journalist Elena Rykovtseva posted: \u201cGod forbid – is this what he\u2019s flogging to school kids at the \u2018Speak about the Important\u2019 session in Kaliningrad? What kind of mess is in his head? Somebody cure this president!\u201d<\/p>\n
Political scientist Fyodor Krashennikov dubbed Putin simply: "Mr. Rubber Bum.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another said: \u201cWhat was it for? What did he mean by that? What does the rubber bum have to do with the subject under discussion? Someone please explain.\u201d<\/p>\n
Newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets said Putin was telling pupils not to see diligence as \u201crubber booty\u201d.<\/p>\n
One guess is that he muddled his Soviet history, and was alluding to a nickname given to notorious Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov, a Bolshevik monster who personally signed off more mass execution lists than Stalin.<\/p>\n

During Stalin\u2019s reign of terror, Molotov was known as \u201cStone Bum\u201d for his ability to work at his desk for 20 hours non stop.<\/p>\n
But Molotov pedantically corrected comrades saying Soviet founder Lenin had in fact nicknamed him "Iron Bum\u201d.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Putin admitted about himself: "I can\u2019t say I am the most disciplined.<\/p>\n
"It\u2019s clear I\u2019ve got to work on myself. Discipline is important to succeed, but discipline alone isn\u2019t enough."<\/p>\n
