In the first two weeks of September there have been 2,917 migrants who have made the treacherous 21-mile crossing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MP for Dover Natalie Elphicke has previously accused France of wasting British taxpayers&#8217; hard-earned money by not stopping people smugglers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;France has a moral and international obligation to protect vulnerable people, save lives, stop people smugglers and tackle organised crime,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;They should not need to be paid to do their duty. It is even more ridiculous that we pay them tens of millions of pounds and get so little in return. This is a shocking waste of taxpayers&#8217; hard-earned money.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Elphicke believes that sorting out the &#8216;small boats crisis&#8217; must be at the top of Liz Truss&#8217;s priority list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2022\/09\/12\/13\/62319953-11203787-image-a-2_1662985647174.jpg\" height=\"456\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of migrants have been intercepted crossing the English Channel in small boats across the last two days as people smugglers looked to take advantage of calm conditions at sea<\/p>\n<p>Today, around 30-40 migrants were brought into the harbour at Dover via a Border Force vessel to a new secluded part of the dock &#8211; the former jetfoil terminal &#8211; behind a large fence which prevents the public from seeing them.<\/p>\n<p>The Border Force 25-metre catamaran Hurricane was seen bringing the first group in this morning &#8211; and there are more expected to cross throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2022\/09\/12\/13\/62321403-11203787-image-a-21_1662987437004.jpg\" height=\"369\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Dover MP Natalie Elphicke (pitcured) has previously accused France of wasting British taxpayers&#8217; money by not stopping people smugglers<\/p>\n<p>A group of mostly men were brought to the Dover port at around 8am &#8211; with some clutching smartphones as they disembarked with nothing more than clothes on their backs.<\/p>\n<p>The number of migrants known to have arrived so far this year now stands at 27,742, according to official government figures.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is creeping up fast to the record 28,526 people who made the clandestine trip across the English Channel in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>August was a record month with 8,644 in 189 incidents &#8211; more than made the 8,410 who made the crossing in dinghies and other small boats in the whole of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Last week it emerged that\u00a0Liz Truss\u2019s Government will go back to the drawing board on a new Bill of Rights to tackle the Channel migrants crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The new Prime Minister\u2019s team confirmed that the human rights reforms \u2013 which began their passage through Parliament this year \u2013 are being \u2018reviewed\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Ministers will redraft the proposals so they are clearly targeted on \u2018illegal immigration\u2019, such as small boats arriving from France, insiders said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Home Secretary Suella Braverman, who replaced Priti Patel during Liz Truss&#8217;s Cabinet reshuffle, is set to take a harder line on tackling the migrant crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Both Ms Truss and Ms Bravermen are also committed to the Rwanda policy which is currently being stalled by a High Court challenge.\u00a0Ms Patel defended her plan to send migrants to Rwanda just hours before quitting.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11203787\/Nearly-3-000-migrants-crossed-Channel-two-weeks-253-arriving-Sunday.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly 3,000 migrants have crossed the Channel<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":163591,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23056],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.7 -
