At least 19 people have been killed in an explosion at an education centre in Afghanistan tonight. The explosion was recorded at the Kaaj education centre in the Dashte Barchi area in the west of Kabul.<\/p>\n
A Taliban spokesman for Kabul police chief said 19 people have been killed and 27 were wounded.<\/p>\n
The Taliban’s interior ministry spokesman said security teams were at the site and condemned the attack.<\/p>\n
Abdul Nafy Takor said attacking civilian targets “proves the enemy’s inhuman cruelty and lack of moral standards”.<\/p>\n
Students were taking a practice university entrance exam Friday morning at 7.30am local time (4am BST) when the blast first took place.<\/p>\n
There were around 150 students at the school, and an unconfirmed list of dead has been shared on social media which shows there were a large number of females who were killed.<\/p>\n
Police spokesperson Khalid Zadran said: “The Kaj educational centre in the 13th district of Kabul city was attacked today, which was holding the entrance examination.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, preliminary information shows that 19 people lost their lives and 27 others were injured. Attacks on civilian targets that prove the brutality of the enemy are strongly condemned.”<\/p>\n
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack, and it comes after multiple incidents in Kabul over recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Earlier in September, two Russian embassy employees were among six people killed in a suicide blast near the Russian embassy.<\/p>\n
In August, an explosion at a mosque during evening prayers killed 21 people and injured 33.<\/p>\n
