A Russian state media commentator known as the \u2018Iron doll of Putin TV\u2019 has appeared to criticise Russia\u2019s military performance in Ukraine. <\/p>\n
Olga Skabeyeva, 37, was speaking on Russian state media TV when she was part of an interview with Andrei Marochko of the Luhansk "people's militia".<\/p>\n
Skabeyeva earned her name due to her strong views against Putin\u2019s critics, and so it comes as quite a surprise to hear her questioning Russia\u2019s military performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are not military people, so just explain to us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis isn\u2019t at all criticism \u2013 So just explain so that we understand.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy do we advance metre by metre when they advance village by village?\u201d<\/p>\n
She continued: \u201cWhy are things going better for them now?<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s it linked to and when will the situation change?\u201d<\/p>\n
The military man at the end of the phone deflected blame and claimed that NATO was in fact the reason Russia and its affiliated forces were struggling.<\/p>\n

Marochko replied: \u201cLet\u2019s take into consideration the fact that we\u2019re not fighting Ukrainian troops.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re fighting NATO troops. They have enormous resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the moment their resources are superior to ours.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir main resource is intelligence. They\u2019re following our movements literally online from a satellite, they\u2019re following our fortifications.<\/p>\n
\u201cNaturally that gives them very large benefits and their chances of success are much higher than ours.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The conversation, shared on Twitter by Francis Sarr, is a striking admission of both members of Russian-affiliated fighting forces and state media that the war in Ukraine is not doing well and are on the back foot.<\/p>\n
It comes as Russia continues to be pushed back in a huge Ukrainian counter-offensive, which is understood to have seen the defenders make ground in the East and South of the country. <\/p>\n
