England faces a Monster Monday after the Three Lions\u2019 World Cup clash with Senegal sparked a 35million pint booze bender.<\/p>\n
Beer sales rocketed 50% as supporters hit the bottle to settle their nerves before watching Gareth Southgate's side thrash Senegal 3-0.<\/p>\n
Fans who poured into the nation\u2019s 30,000 pubs necked 15m ales.<\/p>\n

Another 20m were polished off at home as an estimated 24m tuned in to watch the desert duel in Qatar on TV.<\/p>\n
Experts reckon almost half the country was in bleary after-shock following what was the biggest Sunday for pubs and home-drinking since the Euro 2020 final in July last year.<\/p>\n

Two million employees are expected to call in sick on Monday (December 5) while a bumper 17m staff work from home to keep headaches out of sight of bosses, according to employee absence analyst Bright HR.<\/p>\n
A further 2m more workers will take the day as holiday with annual leave bookings up almost 10% compared to before the World Cup.<\/p>\n
Alan Price, chief executive officer of Bright HR, said: \u201dWorld Cup mania has taken hold. "Some employees are making provision for Hangover Monday\u201d.<\/p>\n

"Annual leave bookings are up, Monday\u2019s sickness absence rate is expected to rise and more employees will also work from home." <\/p>\n
The quietest rush hour since summer was expected in the morning. <\/p>\n
A spokesman for satellite navigator provider Tom Tom said: "The World Cup can change the usual pattern of commuting.\u2019\u2019 Fans blew \u00a3265m on a nationwide big match party. <\/p>\n

Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, said: "At home and at the bar the beer is flowing. "When England do well so do our pubs and breweries." <\/p>\n
National Grid bosses were braced for the biggest sudden power surge of the year at half-time as most fridges across Britain were opened and kettles switched on.<\/p>\n
And England fans let rip with renditions of Neil Diamond's classic Sweet Caroline at half time, as the nation romped home against Senegal thanks to goals from Jordan Henderson, Bukayo Saka and captain Harry Kane.<\/p>\n

France is next up for England, with the quarter final coming on Saturday (December 10) at 7pm, with a date against either Morocco, Spain, Portugal or Switzerland awaiting Gareth Southgate's men in the semi-finals, should they find a way of stopping arguably the world's best striker in France's Kylian Mbappe in Qatar's Al Bayt stadium.<\/p>\n
Either way, it's probably safe to say that should England do that, the country will probably be hungover well into Sunday afternoon . . . and probably Monday, too.<\/p>\n
