Terrified airline passengers dived for cover as their plane was caught in a deadly crossfire at the Culiac\u00e1n International Airport in Sinaloa during the police operation to arrest Ovidio Guzm\u00e1n \u2013 son of notorious drug kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzm\u00e1n .<\/p>\n

One passenger told the New York Post: \u201cAs we were accelerating for take-off, we heard gunshots very close to the plane, and that\u2019s when we all threw ourselves to the floor\u201d.<\/p>\n

Members of the Sinaloa drug cartel reportedly fired at two aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 operated by the Mexican Air Force and civilian Embraer E190 operated by Aeromexico Connect.<\/p>\n

Social media reports from passengers trapped on the civilian airliner reported seeing military aircraft landing<\/p>\n

No injuries were reported, said Aeromexico, which temporarily cancelled all of its flights to and from the Sinaloan cities of Culiacan, Los Mochis and Mazatlan.<\/p>\n

Culiac\u00e1n International Airport closed shortly after Guzm\u00e1n\u2019s arrest for security reasons, according to an announcement on the airport\u2019s official Twitter account.<\/p>\n
