A MUGSHOT of the son of feared cartel boss El Chapo has been released by Mexican authorities after his capture sparked an all-out war.

At least 30 people were killed amid bloody clashes between the military and cartel gunmen following his arrest.

Pictures of the imprisoned drug lord's son Ovidio Guzman after he was detained showed him looking shellshocked before the mugshot was shared.

Ovidio, 32, allegedly took over as head of the Sinaloa cartel after his infamous dad Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was extradited to the US in 2017.

He was captured by security forces in a dramatic swoop on Thursday ahead of a visit by Joe Biden next week.

It triggered violent scenes across Sinaloa as gangsters from the Sinaloa cartel were out for revenge.

Mexican authorities were forced to deploy helicopter gunships, hundreds of troops and armoured vehicles as gun battles erupted.

At least 30 people killed, including 11 members of the security forces and 19 cartel members.

Another 21 people were arrested during the operations, defense minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval said on Friday.

Ovidio – dubbed "El Ratón" or The Mouse – is now being held at a maximum security federal prison in Mexico City.
