The ongoing drama between Prince Harry and the rest of the Royal Family could \u201cmark the beginning of the end of the monarchy\u201d, warns King Charles' biographer.<\/p>\n
Prince Harry's long-awaited memoir Spare will be released in the UK on Tuesday (January 10).<\/p>\n
But royal biographer Catherine Mayer warned: \u201c[Spare is] not just a celebrity knockabout story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead, she argued \u201cthe status of a significant institution of state\u201d is ultimately at stake \u2013 its peril exacerbated by the \u201clayers of secrecy and obfuscation\u201d surrounding the royals, as reports The Independent.<\/p>\n
Extracts from the unreleased book were leaked earlier this week after it was accidentally released early in Spain.<\/p>\n

The title is understood to be a reference to an old saying within royal circles which states the first son is the heir to the titles, power, and fortune – while the second son is a spare in case anything happens to him.<\/p>\n
The Prince repeatedly addresses his experience growing up in his role as the \u2018spare\u2019 and his family\u2019s inability to understand why he would not be content as such.<\/p>\n
The tell-all memoir also features a physical altercation between the two Princes back in 2019 after a row over Meghan Markle where Harry accuses William of acting like the \u2018heir\u2019. <\/p>\n
Ms Mayer warned the gravity of the situation was not reflected in the coverage.<\/p>\n

Warning the ongoing fallout from the rift \u201cis possibly something that will mark the beginning of the end of the monarchy, and that is what we should discuss\u201d.<\/p>\n
She continued: \u201cThere is a general misapprehension that this is a light story about a British tourist attraction. The polarisation on both sides of the row is styled as a defence of the monarchy, but it\u2019s not that. This is not just a celebrity knockabout story.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are talking about is the status of a significant institution of state, with significant powers and significant taxpayer funding, so whether you are pro- or anti-monarchy, it deserves to be considered seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Mayer warns that while secrecy surrounding the royals is intended as a defence mechanism, the accusations of bullying, racism and misogyny, and class distinctions upheld by the monarchy need to be addressed or risk undermining their rule.<\/p>\n
