{"id":169625,"date":"2023-01-15T22:49:35","date_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:49:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/?p=169625"},"modified":"2023-01-15T22:49:35","modified_gmt":"2023-01-15T22:49:35","slug":"young-woman-reveals-the-shocking-truth-about-the-sun-in-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/precoinnews.com\/world-news\/young-woman-reveals-the-shocking-truth-about-the-sun-in-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Young woman reveals the shocking truth about the sun in Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Young woman reveals the shocking truth about the Australian sun that everyone needs to know about<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Claire Champion shared her sun safety tips<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Queenslander said to reapply every 30 to 40 minutes<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>She told tourists to only buy Australian sunscreen\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>She explained the sun can cause deadly skin cancers\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A young woman has revealed the truth about how strong the\u00a0 Australian sun is and shared her advice on how to stay sun safe.<\/p>\n<p>Queenslander Claire Champion shared a video last week explaining how the sun in Australia can cause deadly skin cancers and urged Aussies and tourists to take care of their skin.<\/p>\n<p>Her first tip was to tourists heading to Australia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;If you are travelling here from overseas, leave your sunscreen at home and buy it here,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Our sun is way more intense than your sun at home and your sunscreen is not going to stand a chance.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/01\/15\/22\/66601353-11638131-Queenslander_Claire_Champion_above_warned_tourists_coming_to_Aus-a-2_1673820688011.jpg\" height=\"643\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Queenslander Claire Champion (above) warned tourists coming to Australia to only buy Australian sunscreen in a sun safety advice video last week<\/p>\n<p>The rest of her advice went out to everyone heading out to enjoy the Aussie sun.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Reapplying your sunscreen every 30 to 40 minutes is essential, especially after going for a swim,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Make sure you check the expiry date on your sunscreen because if it is expired it is going to fry you.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Applying sunscreen just one time during the day isn&#8217;t going to do sh**, it&#8217;s only going to last 30 to 40 minutes so you need to reapply.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;You can still get burnt through makeup and you need to reapply it on your face as well, not just over your whole body.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/01\/15\/22\/66601363-11638131-She_urged_all_Aussies_to_reapply_their_sunscreen_every_30_to_40_-a-1_1673820688010.jpg\" height=\"725\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>She urged all Aussies to reapply their sunscreen every 30 to 40 minutes to avoid sunburn (pictured, Ms Champion reapplying sunscreen)<\/p>\n<p>Ms\u00a0Champion then explained why it&#8217;s so important to protect yourself against the sun.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Australia and New Zealand have the highest rates of sun cancer, higher than anywhere else in the world,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Getting sunburnt just one time every two years can triple your risk of melanoma.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Melanoma is sun cancer, it&#8217;s in your skin from the sun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Take care of your friends, take care of yourself and be sun safe, I can&#8217;t stress it enough.&#8217;<\/p>\n<h3>Top tips for using sun cream:<\/h3>\n<p>* Put it on clean, dry skin 15 to 30 minutes before you go out in the sun to allow it time to interact with your skin. Re-apply it just before you go out \u2013 you&#8217;ll increase the amount applied and be more likely to get the stated SPF benefit.<\/p>\n<p>* Cover all parts of the body not protected by clothing (don&#8217;t forget your ears, the back of your neck, the backs of your hands and the tops of your feet).<\/p>\n<p>* Apply it evenly, and don&#8217;t rub it in excessively \u2013 most sunscreens will absorb into the outer layer of skin and don&#8217;t need to be rubbed in vigorously.<\/p>\n<p>* Re-apply at least once every two hours and after swimming or exercise.<\/p>\n<p>* Think beyond the beach and pool \u2013 use sunscreen whenever you go outdoors for a significant amount of time, such as to the park, a lunchtime walk to the shops, playing sports or gardening.<\/p>\n<p>* Store your sunscreen at a temperature of less than 30 degrees Celsius. If you leave it in the glovebox of your car or in the sun, it may lose its effectiveness.
