Donald Trump will finally be allowed back on Facebook and Instagram after two years in the wilderness – but are you happy to see his return?<\/p>\n
Tech giant Meta will lift the suspension in the coming weeks, saying the public 'should be able to hear what their politicians are saying'.<\/p>\n
The then-US president was suspended from both platforms following the Capitol riot in 2021.<\/p>\n
Drastic action was taken following Mr Trump's 'praise for people engaged in violence at the Capitol', said Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs.<\/p>\n
"The suspension was an extraordinary decision taken in extraordinary circumstances," he added.<\/p>\n
A subsequent review found that Mr Trump's accounts no longer posed a serious risk to public safety.<\/p>\n
But due to his past 'violations' he would face heightened penalties for repeat offences.<\/p>\n
