Desperate Russians are being forced to eat out-of-date food, with supermarkets struggling to get supplies in.<\/p>\n

The issues have now reportedly seen Vladimir Putin's Kremlin forced to step in to solve this crisis.<\/p>\n

Reports in Russian media claim that the past their sell-by items include diary, water, beer and more. <\/p>\n

As a result of the items remaining on the shelves because of invasion-related supply issues and sanctions, Kremlin officials are now demanding that supermarkets introduce a new digital labelling scheme \u2013 similar to barcodes \u2013 that tracks the sell-by dates.<\/p>\n

And it comes into force in just a few days time.<\/p>\n

The President of the Union of Consumers of Russia, Petr Shelishch explained: \u201cThe authorities themselves understand that it is in this particular case that mandatory digital marking will be useful.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter all, if the buyer takes an expired product from the shelf and brings it to the checkout, when scanning the digital code, a signal will appear, meaning that the product is expired and cannot be sold.<\/p>\n
