There&#8217;s a trust issue here.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The crash is a sensitive matter \u2013 whoever is behind this has forgotten that&#8230; If that person is found they&#8217;ll be in deep trouble and will lose any security clearance they have.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the UK has 24 F-35s and this was the first major incident involving any. The cutting-edge warplane has stealth and intelligence-gathering capabilities which can fly at supersonic speeds without being detected on radar.<\/p>\n<p>It recently emerged that Russia had been playing close attention to the Queen Elizabeth with a significant increase in aircraft activity nearby. There were understood to be not only eight British F-35s aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth but also ten US aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>They have conducted some 2,000 take-offs and landings without incident. When not deployed on the carrier, the UK&#8217;s F-35Bs are stationed at RAF Marham in Norfolk as part of 617 Squadron (the &#8216;Dambusters&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>Last night the Ministry of Defence said: &#8216;We are aware of a video circulating online. It is too soon to comment on causes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Recovery efforts are ongoing and the Defence Accident Investigation Branch will report back their preliminary findings in due course.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>F-35: How the planes serving HMS Elizabeth have been plagued with problems<\/h3>\n<p>The delivery of the RAF&#8217;s new, US-built F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter in July 2021\u00a0 marked a rare moment of celebration in what has been a troubled project.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;fifth generation&#8217; fighter aircraft is the world&#8217;s most expensive weapons system, though costs have finally stabilised at an eye-watering $406billion.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturer Lockheed-Martin agreed to cap costs after US President Donald Trump critised the project and even tweeted support for a rival aircraft.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Britain is currently embarked on a \u00a39.1billion programme to purchase 48 of the F-35s, from American aviation giant Lockheed each one is comprised of parts from British companies while some of the jets will be made in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>But the planes have been plagued by a catalogue of problems which have sent costs soaring.<\/p>\n<p>There are fears about shortcomings in the technical systems underpinning the new generation of war planes will leave them unable to function properly.<\/p>\n<p>The true cost of the British planes delivered this year is estimated to be over \u00a3150million each to cover &#8216;extras&#8217; such as software upgrades and spare parts.<\/p>\n<p>There are also concerns plane&#8217;s said &#8216;it is simply not acceptable for the MoD to refuse to disclose to parliament and the public its estimates for the total cost of the programme&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" faults in jet&#8217;s combat system.<\/p>\n<p>They included the 25mm cannon vibrating excessively and problems with the he aircraft&#8217;s &#8216;virtual reality&#8217; helmet<\/p>\n<p>Overheating, premature wear of components in the vertical tails and vulnerability to fire were also found to be issues.<\/p>\n<p>The US Air Force temporarily grounded dozens its F-35 stealth fighters while it
