Elderly fraud victims are losing more than \u00a31 million a day to scams, shocking figures from Action Fraud reveal.<\/p>\n
In the past four years, those aged 65 and over have lost \u00a31.7 billion \u2013 equivalent to \u00a31.2 million a day.<\/p>\n
It has prompted demands for the Government to bring forward its plan to tackle fraud, which can overwhelmingly affect the elderly and vulnerable.<\/p>\n
Elderly fraud has jumped from 36,105 recorded cases in 2019 to 57,430 cases in 2022 \u2013 or more than 157 victims a day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Losses reached a new high last year \u2013 with pensioners losing nearly \u00a3460 million, up ten per cent from \u00a3417 million in 2021, according to figures obtained by the Lib Dems.<\/p>\n

Since the beginning of 2019, more than 212,000 cases of fraud against pensioners have been logged.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On average, each victim has lost \u00a38,314 \u2013 significantly higher than the average fraud against victims of all ages.<\/p>\n
The Lib Dems accused the Government of being \u2018asleep at the wheel\u2019 in the fight against fraud.<\/p>\n
The Home Office said: \u2018This Government is absolutely committed to cracking down on fraud.\u2019<\/p>\n
