An alleged paedophile accused of abusing 91 girls across childcare centres in Brisbane and Sydney will be remanded in custody for another two months as police await further evidence from overseas witnesses.<\/p>\n
This month, police revealed they had charged a Gold Coast childcare worker, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in August 2022 with more than 1600 child abuse offences, including rape and indecent treatment of a child.<\/p>\n

AFP Assistant Commissioner Justine Gough announces police had charged the former childcar worker.<\/span><\/p>\n Police alleged the offences were committed across 10 Brisbane childcare centres between 2007 and 2013, and from 2018 to 2022, and a centre in Sydney between 2014 and 2017.<\/p>\n The case was briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, where Crown prosecutor Steven Dickson asked for an adjournment to late January, explaining the case was \u201cvoluminous\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThe parties need more time to assess the evidence. But we have had some discussions about ways we can expedite the matter to proceed through the court,\u201d Dickson said.<\/p>\n Dickson said a large portion of the brief of evidence had been provided to the man\u2019s defence team.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are some small bits of evidence relating to overseas witnesses, which the DPP is waiting on, which the federal police are waiting on as well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Deputy chief magistrate Anthony Gett said he would not adjourn the matter to January, noting the case had a \u201cvery large number of charges\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI still want to bring it back on to see how it\u2019s travelling \u2013 that\u2019s over five months away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Detectives arrested the worker in August 2022 after identifying a set of bedsheets in the background of videos on the dark web.<\/p>\n The sheets were traced back to a manufacturer that supplied childcare centres in Queensland.<\/p>\n The case was adjourned to November 6.<\/p>\nMost Viewed in National<\/h2>\n
