She has now deleted it and apologised. Others have taken to Twitter to support Ms Maclean, despite her apology.<\/p>\n<p>And German comic Mr Wehn tweeted a clip of Melissa speaking on the BBC calling Ms Maclean transphobic over her \u2018wig\u2019 comments and said: &#8216;I don\u2019t want to be called transphobic and I also don\u2019t want to be accused of targeting minorities but\u2026I mean\u2026come on..please&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>But human right campaigner Peter Tatchell has sprung to Melissa&#8217;s defence today &#8211; and said the Green candidate, a member of the party since around 2020, is &#8216;trying to support women&#8217;s rights and get more women MPs&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>He told GB News: &#8216;Melissa was actually trying to support women&#8217;s rights and get more women MPs, which is a very honourable thing to do. I&#8217;m really disappointed that Rachel Maclean sought to attack Melissa. That&#8217;s not a good thing at all. It is not clear whether the aspiring MP has had any surgery or a gender recognition certificate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/11\/17\/78814821-12850965-Rachel_Maclean_deleted_the_tweet_and_apologised_for_her_comments-a-58_1702314078272.jpg\" height=\"412\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Rachel Maclean deleted the tweet and apologised for her comments but later said she didn&#8217;t apologise for criticising the Green Party&#8217;s gender policy<\/p>\n<p>Melissa was pictured on Tory campaign material in 2019, standing as Matthew Viner. In April 2022, campaign material featured the aspiring politician as Mattie Viner and without long hair, standing as a Green in a town council election, finishing third on 155 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa has also hit back after Ms Maclean&#8217;s comments, describing the remarks as gaslighting and adding: &#8216;It&#8217;s a shame, without a shadow of a doubt it is a transphobic comment, it&#8217;s dog-whistling at the finest.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The Green candidate was born a biological man before beginning to transition last year.
