A fisherman who was bitten on the head by a 15-foot crocodile saved himself by digging his fingers into the beast's eyes.
The 44-year-old is lucky to be alive even after the monster bit him three times, leaving him with multiple fractures and severe injuries to his head, abdomen and leg.
The man was swimming at Archer Point on Saturday afternoon, a popular camping area almost 20km south of Cooktown on the Cape York Peninsula, Queensland.

The man was dragged by the beast deep below the water's surface, but was able to break free and swim to rocks before rescue teams arrived.
He was given medical assistance by a group of six people who were also swimming along with him.
The emergency services attended to the injured man and flew him to Cairns Hospital.
Valerie Noble, of Queensland Ambulance Service, confirmed to the reporters: "(The croc) has bitten him three times and dragged him to the bottom.
"He's managed to – according to him – stick his fingers in the crocodile's eyes multiple times and escape before swimming towards the shore.

The 44-year-old man is said to be in a stable condition following the fatal incident.
The Queensland Department of Environment and Science has confirmed that they will investigate the attack and confirm if the crocodile is still in the area.

The following news came days after a 65-year-old man was attacked by a crocodile in his sleep at Newell Beach near Port Douglas on April 4.
The man suffered a minor injury to his legs and was discharged the following day.

The Queensland government wants people to be "croc wise" after the news of frequent attacks on the beach.
The data revealed by the Queensland Department of Environment and Science that there have been eight reported attacks between 2020 and March 2023.
