‘Mass causalities’ as active shooter opens fire in busy bank

    Police are hunting down an "active shooter" after a gunman opened fired at a busy bank earlier today.

    The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department were called to the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky, US today.

    Officers confirmed they are currently responding to "reports of an active aggressor" and are urging the public to avoid the area.

    "Multiple casualties" have been confirmed.

    A tweet from a member of the force read: "We are confirming reports of an active aggressor in the 300 block of East Main. Please stay out of the area. There are multiple casualties."

    Governor Andy Beshear tweeted: "LMPD has confirmed a shooting situation in downtown Louisville with multiple casualties. I am headed there now. Please pray for all of the families impacted and for the city of Louisville."

    Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg also confirmed there is an "active police situation downtown" and urged people to avoid the area "until further notice".
